From London to the Big Apple, "Harry Potter and The Cursed Child" is coming to New York City as early as spring of 2018. As someone who has already been fortunate enough to see the play while studying abroad in London (thanks, mom!), I must say that I am just as excited to be able to have the chance to potentially see it again in NYC. The book doesn't do the play justice in my opinion, though I did enjoy the book still. Seeing "Harry Potter and The Cursed Child" on stage was everything I could've expected and more.
You have the chance to witness the magic of the Wizarding World happen in front of you within throwing distance. I mean, seriously, it's basically a childhood (and adulthood) dream come true. All of the spells and curses are happening before your eyes in 3D thanks to the magnificent special effects employed. You can see Ron and Harry apparate before your very eyes, just a few feet away from you. It's different than seeing it on screen but in a good way.
Seeing the golden trio all grown up with kids makes you feel some kind of way. Even though it isn't Dan, Rupert and Emma on stage, it's still the characters we've grown up with and come to love. The actors in London did an amazing job taking on the hard-to-fill roles of playing Ron, Harry, Hermione, and others. I have no doubt in my mind that whomever is cast for the NYC production will do an equally wonderful job.
If you've read the book, you already know the plot and the characters. But now, it is taken off the pages and put on a stage in front of you to witness. I'll admit, it was strange reading the book in that format. However, having seen the play prior to the release of the book made it easier and more enjoyable to read in my opinion. My advice is to see the play and then reread the book and you'll see what I mean.
Getting to see the Harry Potter and the Wizarding World legacy continuously live on is probably the best part of seeing the play. You'll become overwhelmed with various emotions, consisting mainly of nostalgia and joy. Make sure to bring the tissues because some tears may be shed along the way as well, especially if you are a true potterhead. Luckily, you have plenty of time to prepare yourself emotionally and mentally since we have to wait over a freaking year for this dream to come true.
So, muggles of America (and the rest of the world), hop on those computers and starting booking flights because you won't want to miss this magical experience. If only spring of 2018 could come sooner.
Also a helpful hint: see both parts! (part one first, then part two). Trust me.
