Different books help you escape to different realities. One of the most common and greatest escapes is the Harry Potter series. Every Harry Potter book gives you different pieces of advice as you grow up with the characters. Even though these characters have magic, each one teaches us how to become respectable, kind, and decent human beings. Here are what each character taught us, well what most of the characters taught us (this is not for the faint of heart):

1. Katie Bell

Dont take things from strangers in bathrooms.

2. Regulus Arcturus Black

It is never t0o late to redeem yourself and choose to be good.

3. Sirius Black

A true friend fights for their friends and to protect what they believe in.

4. Lavender Brown

Don't be "that girl".

5. Dobby

Stand up for what you believe in no matter how painful.

6. Albus Dumbledore

"The truth is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution."

7. Dudley Dursley

The person you hated most as a child could become the one to protect you in the future.

8. Marjorie Dursley

Watch what you say.

9. Petunia Dursley

A life in constant envy just leads to pain.

10. Arabella Figg

Someone is always looking out for you

11. Argus Filch

Don't live a life revolved around cleaning up other peoples messes while your life is still a mess.

12. Seamus Finnigan

Form your own opinions, not just those your parents hold.

13. Cornelius Fudge

Do not live in denial.

14. Hermione Granger

Use the buddy system, aka don't go to the bathroom alone when there are trolls in the dungeon, and that is ok to be overly ready to learn and be absolutely brilliant.

15. Rubeus Hagrid

Be kind to the animals and people around you no matter how harsh they seem.

16. Viktor Krum

Go for the smart girls.

17. Gilderoy Lockhart

Sometimes the only person you are fooling is yourself.

18. Alice and Frank Longbottom

Fight for what you believe in.

19. Neville Longbottom

“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.” Also, do not wait for a hero to come save you, become your own hero.

20. Luna Lovegood

It is ok to be a little strange and different from everyone else

21. Xenophilius Lovegood

Family is everything.

22. Remus Lupin

No matter how scared you think you are people love you and will change to make you more comfortable.

23. Draco Malfoy

It is ok to admit you're wrong and accept defeat, even if it takes you a while to get there. Merely surviving is sometimes ok.

24. Minerva McGonagall

"Speak your mind, even if your voice shakes."

25. Moaning Mytrle

Eventually someone will listen to the importance of what you say.

26. Peeves

You can be great and yet forgotten.

27. Peter Pettigrew

Snitches get stitches.

28. Harry Potter

Chose your friends wisely and that who you decide to be as kids defines how you will act as adults. Even when you feel like your parents will just never understand you, at least they aren't the Dursleys. Be grateful for what you have, because you don't live in a cupboard under the stairs.

29. James and Lily Potter

Love conquers all.

30. Quirinus Quirrell

People are two-faced.

31. Rita Skeeter

Just because someone said it doesn't make it true.

32. Horace Slughorn

Fight or flight, we will always end up having to fight.

33. Severus Snape

Some people aren't as they seem. A tougher exterior can lead to a loving interior after all this time.

34. Sybill Patricia Trelawney

Some people won't listen to what you have to say despite the merit.

35. Dolores Jane Umbridge

Some evil is packaged with a pink bow on top.

36. Lord Voldemort

You don't need a nose to be evil.

37. Arthur Weasley

It's ok to be amused by simple things.

38. Fred and George Weasley

Live life with a smile and always have fun.

39. Ginny Weasley

Everybody makes mistakes.

40. Molly Weasley

Swearing is ok, when fighting Bellatrix.

41. Percy Weasley

Ask for forgiveness when you're wrong.

42. Ron Weasley

Be generous, even when you have nothing to give.

I am sorry for the long list, but also you're welcome because I left out a lot of other characters.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
