Moira Smith was awarded Glamour Magazine's “Woman of the Year Award” in 2001 for her brave and courageous acts during the events of 9/11. Smith, who was a female police officer at the time gave the ultimate sacrifice, her life while rescuing victims from the World Trade Center. Moira Smith was a hero.
14 years later the recipient of the “Woman of the Year Award” is not someone who risked her life in order to save others from a tragedy, she did not pass away heroically leaving her family to mourn her loss. Instead, the recipient Caitlyn Jenner transformed into a she from a he.
Smith’s husband James has decided to return the award given to his wife because he now finds it “insulting to Moira Smith’s memory.” Who could blame him? The award given to your wife’s heroism is now given to a man for undergoing plastic surgeries and hormones to become a woman. There is no spectrum where these acts could even become close to equal one another.
Not only does this recent award insult past heroic recipients, it gives women a slap in the face. It goes along with the old belief that men are superior. Not only can men be better than women at everything, they can now even be better at being a woman than we are.
Caitlyn Jenner tries to join the female bandwagon and empathize with our daily struggles. She even goes to far as to reveal our deepest darkest secret about womanhood, saying in an interview, “The hardest part about being a woman is figuring out what to wear.” Instant chills, so inspiring.

Caitlyn Jenner believes she knows the struggles females go through in our everyday lives, but she cannot even begin to grasp what it is like to be a woman in our society today. Dressing up in designer clothes, getting plastic surgery or having hormone replacement therapy, long nails and beautiful hair does define what it is like to be a woman.
The hardest part about being a woman is the struggle to be an equal. Whether this is in society, the workplace, or in education. Women are constantly fighting to be seen as more than just their gender, but their talent, to be given the same opportunities to learn.

The hardest part about being a woman is the fear and adrenaline you have as you are walking alone, especially at night. Every little sound or shadow stops your heart for a split second, making it hard for you to breathe because you are so overcome with fear, fear of the unknown and the possibility.

The hardest part about being a woman is trying to look out for yourself and your safety, without being paranoid about becoming a victim. The fact that one in three women will be in an abusive relationship at some point in their lifetime, and that one in three could become you.

The hardest part about being a woman is no matter who you are, what you do, what you wear, where you are or the decisions you make, you cannot always protect yourself. Your gender alone can sometimes determine your fate and not for the better.
So Caitlyn Jenner, welcome to womanhood.
You may not ever be able to understand what the hardest part about being a woman truly is, but congratulations, you will now be paid 77 cents to every dollar you used to make.
