The Hardest Things To Say Goodbye To When Leaving For College

Going back to school after a long summer break is generally super exciting, especially if you love your university. However, there are undoubtedly things that we all miss about being at home. Whether it is your mom's cooking or your local hangout spot with your friends, there are times that you'll find yourself yearning for those comforts only your hometown can offer.

7. Your favorite home town restaurant.

Each area of the country has its own uniqueness, and there are infinite numbers of delicious restaurants scattered throughout them. Leaving your favorite restaurant back home might not seem like such a big deal at first, but when you haven't had it in a while and you're 6+ hours away with no hope until Christmas, it can be pretty upsetting.

6. Being in your own comfortable bed.

There's nothing more comfortable than your childhood bed. You'll definitely miss the good night's sleep here when you're rocking the Twin XL lifestyle.

5. Free laundry.

It's always super depressing to have to drop $30 every two weeks on a laundromat visit. Having access to mom's laundry facilities gives you more money for other fun things that you would be wasting on laundry while you're at school. *Bonus points if you don't even have to do it yourself.

4. Home-cooked meals

When you're eating ice soup for the third day in a row because you blew all of your cash on booze, you'll really wish you had a guaranteed full spread dinner at 6 p.m.

3. Unlimited snacks and groceries.

Fully stocked pantry. Need I say more?

2. Your friends from back home.

After spending every day of the summer reconnecting with your hometown friends, it's hard to say goodbye knowing that you most likely won't see them for a few months. Just work on keeping consistent contact so you can always be in the loop about their lives.

1. Your dog.

100% the hardest thing to say goodbye to before leaving for college. Your dog is basically an extension of yourself, and all the puppies in the library during finals definitely don't compare to your fur baby.

April Ludgate

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
