Some people say that I can be too competitive and I don’t think I have heard anyone say that I am not overly competitive. Being competitive can have its perks. For one thing, I always play to win. I have tried over and over again to lose graciously and after a few years, I have been able to lose graciously. I don’t always win graciously because I do love to win.
I have learned how to win and lose graciously when I am playing with young kids but that wasn’t always the case when I was younger. It took a few years for me to understand how to win and learn competitively. I have learned how to play games without getting too competitive but sports have become another issue.
Growing up I did a lot of sports and always liked to win because like I said I am competitive. Throughout high school, I always swam my hardest. I wasn’t the fastest girl on the team but I would always swim against myself. Every time I jumped off those blocks and hit the water I wasn’t racing to win first (I was but I knew it wouldn’t always happen) instead I was racing against my time, against my personal record, to always beat my time. I can be competitive in life and competitive games but I am the most competitive against myself. My personal records I am always trying to break whether it is in swimming or another sport.
I have recently started running and have a Spartan Race in a week and a half. I have been running with a group of people from my village and we all normally like to work out. I have been trying hard not be super competitive when we run together. These people have been running longer than I have so I need to make sure that I don’t run too fast or hurt myself. It does help to drive me forward and run faster but I still can’t run as fast as they can so I have to be careful when I run with them. We also work out together and go to group fitness classes together where I keep my competitiveness down. As we are all doing the Spartan Race together my goal is to finish the race without letting my competitiveness get in the way.
I am super excited for the event and hoping that any competitiveness that is there is all friendly competition.
