As I scroll through news headlines, it's easy to be overwhelmed with political news, natural disasters, and disheartening stories. Instead, I've pieced together some heartwarming news stories to make your day a bit sweeter.


Police dog in Idaho saved by blood of two other dogs

In Boise, ID, Jardo was in need of some help by some fellow canines. Jardo, a police dog who's active in duty, was shot in the chest on Friday, November 18th. He lost a lung, but is predicted a healthy recovery. His recovery, however, wouldn't be possible without the blood donations of Myles, a golden retriever, and Cricket, a pit bull.


Texas soldier returns home just in time for son's birth

After serving seven months in Afghanistan, Mario Dorado made it home just in time for his second son's birth. He, nor his wife, was anticipating Mario to be home at the time, though the family was blessed with perfect timing.


Green sea turtles are no longer endangered in Mexico and Florida

The US Fish and Wildlife Service has announced that the green sea turtles are no longer endangered. In Florida alone, there are over 2,250 females, up from the extremely small population in 1978.


Divorce rates in the U.S. are the lowest they've ever been in 40 years

According to the National Center for Family and Marriage Research, couples are deciding to stray away from choosing divorce as a solve-all option. In fact, the national divorce rate has dropped to 16.9 divorces per 1,000 couples, compared to 20 couples in 2008.


The world isn't crashing and going to burst into flames, like some may think. Look at the positives; there are a lot of great things happening around the world.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
