How Happy Have You Been Lately?

How Happy Have You Been Lately?
Kaitlyn May

Around this time last year, many things were running through my mind and I wasn’t the happiest. I wanted to start taking pictures again and I wanted to challenge myself to take pictures every day. Eventually, I came across a website, 100happydays.com. I read through the whole website and right when you opened the page it asks you “Can you be happy for 100 days in a row?” As I thought to myself howhard could this be? It’s only one hundred days, It’s not like its a whole year. So as I decided to go through with it I looked through the whole web page to see what it was all about.

Today, right now we never really appreciate the little things in life because we feel there is no time to just enjoy the subtle moments we are given. The webpage explains that this challenge was very hard to complete as to 71% of the people who signed up FAILED. By the lack of time was the main reason, but how could that be? There’s twenty-four hours in a day and lets say the average adult work the 9-5 schedule they wake up whenever they want and drive or walk to work, then there’s after work…and nothing made them happy that day at all?

For myself completing this challenge last year it was pretty hard finding something that made me happy because in the beginning of the challenge I thought there was no time but as I started to realize what things made me happy it got much easier. As the website goes on to say the simplicity of this challenge is that “It can be anything from a meet-up with a friend to a very tasty cake in the nearby coffee place,” thats all, nothing too extravagant.

During the challenge I really did start to realize the things that made me happy but even the little things, something I bought, some artwork I saw, lunch with a friend and a lot more. I really think people should give this a try because you never know where it could take you! They say what you could find yourself doing with this challenge is obviously becoming happier, being in a better mood each and every day, receiving compliments, being more optimistic and maybe even falling in love.

By the end of the challenge I really did feel a lot happier because I expressed myself through what I love, that being taking pictures of things I love. Once the challenge was over they asked me if I want to receive all the photos I took throughout this opportunity and I did. It was “free.” 100 Happy Days does a Pay it Forward, meaning someone already paidd for your pictures and all you need to do is pay for the next person.

As I said before I really do think people should try this out because it made me feel a lot better and happier about myself. Even though it could be a hassle to post everyday and people think it's annoying, you're doing it for yourself and not to make other people jealous. If jealousy is all that you're after, then then you've already lost.

“Happiness is a form of courage”
A quote by Holbrook Jackson.

This was the caption on my last picture for my 100th day. This quote means it’s really easy to be depressed or sorrowful, but it does take real courage to be happy, and that's all it took me.

Christmas Tree

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
