Does anyone else get that awkward feeling of loneliness around Valentine's Day? It is kind of like all of the attention I usually do not give to the fact that I'm perpetually single is pulled into the light and I realize that I will be alone...again...on Valentine's Day.

I tend to get to this part of the year and almost completely forget that Galentine's Day is also right around the corner, even coming up before Valentine's Day!

What is Galentine's Day, you might be asking yourself?

Well it doesn't matter if you're in a relationship or not this Valentine's Day. Galentine's Day should be celebrated. Of course this holiday was originally created by our very own Leslie Knope of Parks and Recreation. The holiday was made for all of the single ladies ( or not so single ladies) in the universe who just want to celebrate the love she has for her friends, but this fictional holiday is a lot more than just that.

As explained by Leslie on the show Parks and Recreation, "Oh, it's only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It's like the Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas."

Galentine's Day started off as a made up holiday, but has come to be adored and celebrated by many women all over the place. Whether they follow in Leslie's footsteps and go out to breakfast or just have a girls day or head out to the nail salon or to get dinner, the holiday has become appreciated all around.

I think everyone should celebrate this holiday too! Gather your friends and celebrate the wonderful women in your life, and even if you can't have a full breakfast-with-mimosas, take the day to express how much you value all your gal-pals, because everyone deserves a day to be recognized.

Since Valentine's Day is for those who have significant others and can sometimes leave other people feeling some type of way, Galentine's Day can also just be a day to treat yourself. Whether that means taking yourself to get your favorite food or just doing a face mask, it should be done. Ladies, this is a day for you and yours!

Just because you don't have someone to spend Valentine's Day with doesn't mean anything. I mean, think about it, Valentine's Day is a made up holiday that draws attention to the fact that you have someone or don't. It is a holiday that sets unrealistic expectations for relationships when you should just be loving your person all the time! So why not celebrate a holiday that was made up but has become so much more!

Galentine's Day allows you to have a little bit of everything! There is so much good about appreciating your friends and yourself, so you might as well spend the days around Valentine's Day doing just that. I know I will be.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
