Happy Friendiversary: A Letter To My Best Friend

Dear Best Friend,

This morning as I was drinking my coffee and scrolling through my Timehop like I do every day, a post caught my eye. It was from 4 years ago, and it was a picture of you and I at a church event. I had just gotten my braces off and you still had blonde hair. The picture had a horrible Instagram filter, but it was the first picture that marked our friendship.

Now, here we are, 1350 miles apart at two different colleges, in two different states, studying in two different areas. You traded our small town for a big city and I fell in love with the place I always thought I would leave. Our plans have changed throughout the years, people have come and gone, our feet have travelled in many directions (mainly yours more than mine), but no matter how far apart we get, we’ll always find our way back home to each other.

Every day, I thank God for sending me someone like you. You seriously are a blessing that I will always be grateful for. In a crazy world like this, I have always had you as a constant to confide in and laugh with until I cried. I am so glad I got to know you, and in return keep you as my best friend.

Thank you for all the nights we stayed up way too late watching The Hannah Montana Movie. Thank you for all the trips made to Fayetteville for Plato’s Closet and s’cute pics. Thank you for the times we would just sit in bed and not talk, but know exactly what we were thinking. Thank you for always being the first one I would call when anything went right, or when everything went wrong. Thank you for loving me at all times, even when I was a greasy Stefan. Thank you for letting me act like I was in 7th grade some nights when I needed to talk about boys. Thank you for praying with me, and for me, and directing me to the Lord and His promises. Thank you for picking out my outfits, and making me look like a show stopper. Thank you for putting up with my dramatic self, and for sassing me just enough to put me back in my place. Thank you for all of the other memories that we have made together, and the many more we will make. Simply put, thank you for investing in me and being there through so much of my life.

In this phase of life, we have been pulled apart. Our friendship consists of Twitter favorites, brief phone calls, and the occasional letter. But in those quick encounters, we pick right back up where we left off. You have made new friends with new ideas and I have done the same. However, no matter what, there is always a place in my heart that is yours. You are my future maid of honor, the Sharpay to my Ryan, and the one person who I will always want to talk to at the end of the day. It makes me so excited and proud to see you living life and doing such awesome things.

I am so glad that I get to call you my best friend. Happy Friendiversary!

ILYSM,

Kaylee

(PS LOL at how cheesy this was.)

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.

1. Finals are weeks away, I’m sure I’ll be ready for them when they come.
