Happy Fall Szn... Literally

At last, the best season of the year has finally arrived.

Helloooo autumn!

Back home in Florida, “seasons” aren’t a real thing. The temperature rarely ever drops below 70 degrees, the humidity seems to be at an all-time-high all year round, and bathing suits and shorts are really the only two articles of clothing you need to survive. As I experience my first fall in Madison, I’m quickly becoming aware of all that I’ve been missing out on - and believe me, it’s a lot. To all of you who claim that you “don’t like fall,” I think you’re probably lying… there’s no other reasonable explanation. Happy Best-Season-Ever Season!

Leaves that aren’t green?

Yep. It’s true. The leaves actually do change colors, and it’s amazing. Sure, it’s nice to have green leaves on our trees all year back home, but to be surrounded by yellows, oranges, and reds all-day every-day is truly a warming feeling, just like the colors themselves. Everything looks like a painting during autumn, which basically means the best Instagram opportunities, ever. You can thank me later.

Pumpkins, apple cider, donuts…

Fall = food galore. When October hits, everyone seems to switch into pumpkin-spice mode, and it’s incredible (try a Pumpkin Spice Latte and you’ll know what I mean). Finding the perfect pumpkin at pumpkin patches is one of the best fall activities, and anyone who tells you that it’s childish is just so wrong. Autumn is also the best time of the year to go apple picking, AKA tons of apple pie, apple cider, and chocolate covered apples. Sugar-coated donuts seem to be a fall-fab here in Madison, and I'm not complaining the slightest bit. Check out your local farmer’s market ASAP for the yummiest fall treats around, or just road trip to Madison for the cutest market ever.

Nothing quite like fall fashion.

Ah, at last, time to break out the black booties and jean jackets. Any girl will tell you that their outfits during autumn are their best of the year. We can finally shove our shorts and t-shirts towards the back of our closets and break out the new jeans, coats, and scarves we’ve been waiting to show off. Plus, the temperature is at its best - cool enough to drink lattes and not have frizzy hair, warm enough to spend the day outside without freezing. A very, very happy medium.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
