The Top 5 Books To Cozy Up To This Fall
Jonathan Pendleton

As the weather drops, and the outside activities become slim, everyone needs something to do while they are cuddled up in bed, under the warm covers. Well, you know what my favorite thing to do during this chilly season is? Catch up on reading some new and great books. From the self-proclaimed book nerd herself, here are some great new titles sure to keep you happy on a crisp, chilly, fall day.

1. "Luckiest Girl Alive" by Jessica Knoll

This is a first from breakout author, Jessica Knoll, and I read it in one day, because I just could not put it down. It focuses on successful and glamorous adult Ani FaNelli, and highlights a cruel and unbelievable humiliation that happened to her at high school. Jessica Knoll captures mystery, suspense, humor, emotion and sass all in this novel, and it is sure to leave you interested and intrigued right up until the last page.

2. "Handle With Care" by Jodi Piccoult

From the wonderful author, Jodi Piccoult, emerges one of my newest, favorite books, titled Handle With Care. This novel follows the O'Keefe family, and their daughter Willow, who suffers from Type III osteogenesis imperfect, also described as brittle own syndrome. Poor Willow breaks easily, and this novel follows her parents, Sean and Charlotte, and their journey for funds to support their daughter, and justice from the child's OBGYN. An emotional read, told from the main view from Charlotte, but featuring snippets from other characters, "Handle With Care" is sure to give you goosebumps.

3. "Room" by Emma Donoghue

This novel, by Emma Donoghue, was recently turned into a movie! The novel, however, is sure to leave you speechless. Told from the point of view of five-year-old, Jack, you realize that this poor boy and his mother have been kept captive for his entire life. This novel will leave you rooting for their safety, and exposes you to a plot that is rarely discussed; the life of a kidnapping and sexual assault victim.

4. "Salem's Lot" by Stephen King

Well, with fall comes October, and with October comes horror movies and Halloween. You know I had to include a few scary novels, especially this one by Stephen King. I actually had to read this book for a class, and was super excited, because Stephen King books are always fun. This is an earlier novel, his second one, published in 1975, but still terrifying. It follows the writer, Ben Mears, who returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem's Lot, to soon find it is being taken over by vampires. Ben joins forces with some of the local towns folk, and they fight this evil force up until the very last page!

5. "Dark Places" by Gillian Flynn

Another one by my favorite author, Gillian Flynn, that is filled with disturbing scenes and crazy plot twists. This novel follows Libby Day, whose childhood was ruined when her mother and two sisters were brutally murdered. She testified against her brother, Ben, but now, twenty-five-year-old Libby is discovered by the Kill Club — a sort of crime obsessed secret society, and they drag her in and make her question that entire night all over again. "Dark Places" will have you reeling for the truth, and will leave you stunned with the revelations.

Well, there you have it guys! Happy fall, and happy reading!

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
