As a college student, it is so easy to lose the sense of your healthy habits and not take care of yourself. With all the exams, papers and living responsibilities, it is so hard to keep everything the same in your personal life. This is why it is crucial to have healthy habits in your life, for your body and your mind. It will all around change your well being such as your grades, personal relationships, and health. Keep reading to find some great ways to keep your lifestyle intact in college!

1. Water, Water, and WATER

Staying hydrated is probably the most overused piece of advice you have ever received, but water is SO essential. Water helps your skin, digestive system, hair, energy, etc. I could go on forever!

2. Be MINDFUL

In a world where people do not remove themselves from screens often, one of the best advice I could give you is to take a break. Go for a walk, enjoy your surroundings and listen to all the noises this earth makes. I would even suggest taking a notebook with you to write down anything you think of or read a book. Sometimes the best thoughts are empty thoughts.

3. WERK IT

Keeping your body moving; whether you go to the gym or head outside for a walk, exercise is so beneficial. Being active can completely change your attitude, help blood circulation, boost energy, promote weight loss, reduce anxiety, and a multitude of other things.

4. NO guilty meals

As a college student, I find that there is so much pressure not to eat the terrible food everyone expects us to eat here. My response to this is EVERYTHING in moderation. Your body will not feel too good if you eat pasta or sweets all day every day but as long as you sustain a well-balanced diet, never feel guilty for treating yourself. You earned it!

5. Get your REST on

It is so easy especially during busy weeks such as finals week to overwhelm yourself and end up completely burnt out. That is why getting to sleep at a reasonable time is crucial to be at least a little bit functional the next morning. Create a sleep schedule for yourself and STICK to it. I find setting new alarm times for different goals I have in my life very exciting, making it so easy to wake up in the morning to achieve those goals!

6. SMILE and LAUGH

Even after having the worst day, forcing myself to smile changes my attitude instantly. It may partially be because I look like an idiot forcing myself to smile and I love laughing at myself, but once I do this, it changes my whole perspective of the day. Your body language can reflect on your own emotions!

7. Find Yourself

For that one day or a few days a week where you have time just for yourself, USE IT. Find something that you love to do individually. It could be a jam session, a walk, volunteering for something you care about, or anything that is unique to you. Doing things on your own and for yourself is great for reflecting on your life and who you are as a person.

8. Spend time with people who VIBE with you

What I mean by this is to associate yourself with people who have similar goals and ideals as you. Being able to grow, communicate and succeed surrounded by people who support you and care for you is key. It also adds that extra kick to life by reaching your goals with someone and sharing that journey together. REMEMBER, your experiences and the people that you meet here are just as valuable as your education in my eyes, so choose your friends wisely, and you will have meaningful relationships that will hopefully last a lifetime.

9. Love Yourself

You are in college, and there are going to be days that you are so disappointed in yourself or others will put you down. It is okay to have a bad day and feel all those icky emotions, but please remember to love yourself. When all is said and done, you are the only one you have. Understand that and appreciate the fact that no one else can be you. You are Human, and You are Worth It.

10. Love Your Life

Last but MOST IMPORTANTLY, is to gain perspective. Be grateful for everything, even the struggles you may have, they are in your life for a reason. That reason is to mold you into your unique self. Never let go of all your amazing memories, some filled with laughter and smiles and some filled with the best life lessons. Take a step back and enjoy the view that is your life.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
