Happiness Is Composed Of Little Things

Life is busy. Deadline after deadline, you can find yourself swimming in a pool of frustration and doubt quicker than you could say “nap please”. It’s easy to see how we, as productive human beings, can get lost in our schedules only ever thinking of the future rather than taking a simple moment to live in the present. Happiness can be found in all sorts of diversified and assorted venues, waiting to be rediscovered for our wellbeing. Even though the simpler days seem to be behind us, that doesn’t mean that those little things that once made our heart beat a little faster while spreading a smile across our faces have since then disappeared. They’re still there, dying for our attention and patiently anticipating their well deserved admiration. Of all the things in my life, here is a briefly composed list of the things that have proven to be steadfast and true in my quest for a life full of undying happiness.

  1. Finding new, incredible music.
  2. A warm, long and tight hug from someone who loves you more than anything.
  3. Forehead kisses.
  4. When someone remembers something about you that you have even forgot about yourself.
  5. Hand written notes.
  6. A quick “Just to say I love you” phone call.
  7. Fireworks on the Fourth of July.
  8. Seeing a really good movie.
  9. Laughing until you burst into tears because your stomach hurts so bad.
  10. Three dollar Burritos at Chipotle on Halloween.
  11. McDonald’s Coke.
  12. Late night food runs with my best friend.
  13. When my gas tank is full.
  14. The first warm cup of coffee in the morning.
  15. The smell of bacon cooking upstairs.
  16. Hearing the rain falling outside on my window.
  17. Taking a shower after a long day.
  18. Licking the spoon.
  19. Making someone else laugh.
  20. Discovering a new, intensely addicting Netflix show.
  21. Finding a $20 bill in your jean pockets after taking them out of the dryer.
  22. Witnessing someone pay it forward.
  23. Crawling into a bed of freshly cleaned sheets.
  24. Connecting with someone who you haven’t spoken to in years.
  25. Sweatpants.
  26. The cooking videos on Facebook.
  27. The first beautiful snow of winter.
  28. Puppy kisses.
  29. Sleeping in.
  30. Watching someone talk about and do something they’re extremely passionate about.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
