I cannot understand why people do not like hockey- the greatest sport on Earth. Don't get me wrong, I assuredly enjoy watching the SEC football games and TB12 dominate every Sunday. However, hockey will always be on the top of my totem pole. For starters, the game is played on a giant sheet of ice unlike every other sport that is played on the solid ground. If managing to stay upright on sharp blades of steel while combining speed and agility isn't talented, then I don't know what is. But aside from the immense talent that is, the speed of the game is non-comparative to the speed of other sports -- slap shots, game pace, the players. If you close your eyes for a split second, you could miss a winning goal. Which leaves me to also mention the insane playoffs the NHL contributes. Fighting for that Stanley Cup, means there are no stops nor breaks. Twenty-eight games to prove you deserve thy Lord Stanley and that means backbreaking play. But this team devotion leads to unbelievably intense games.
Nonetheless, October is the best time of the year, bringing the dawn of the season. I come from a small town in Massachusetts and am more than excited for this year's season because the B's are looking good. Their season opener against Columbus was nothing but a reminder of the old-school resilience we Boston fans have been waiting for. But regardless of your team preference, we all get excited when our teams win. And when our team loses, it's screaming time at the TV thinking the people can hear/care what we have to say.
But screaming at the TV doesn't do us as much justice like screaming in the Garden, or wherever your team plays. Not only can you actively participate in the chants and chirps but you can make plenty of new friends. Back in season 12-13, Tim Thomas had a fragmentary reputation. But I still continued to wear his jersey to games because of the player he was. However, one game I decided to put "NO" over the "TO", making it "NOMAS." Since he was in and out, I didn't know what was going on. I sure made a lot of friends that night... and got to listen to some people's bellicose opinions. But that's Boston hockey for yah.
No other sport's jargon beats the hockey lingo; In fact, there's even an ultimate dictionary for it: (http://thehockeywriters.com/how-to-talk-like-a-hoc...). Growing up and playing the sport, the language became part of my everyday speech. I remember during street hockey days, there was nothing but cruel chirps coming out of nine-year-olds. Furthermore, no other sport beats a celly- goal celebration- like hockey does. That is enough said.
