The Happiest Hour Reunion

Reuniting with our college best friends.

The Happiest Hour Reunion

Three months, a fourth of the year, 100 days. That is how long we go without our college friends during the summer months.

As I wake up on a Saturday morning at home, I'm not woken up to the sound of a knock on my door from one of my best friends trying to drag me out of bed to brunch.

When I sit at home watching the latest episode of Criminal Minds, I'm not asked by several friends if I want to go play a pick up game of sand volleyball instead of wasting my life away inside.

I don't get to sleep in a bunk bed with my best friend and roommate in the bed above me trying to shake the bed so hard her bed will come crashing down onto me. (Okay, maybe that was a little dramatic, but she and I both know this wasn't far from the truth). No bed time stories or staying up until 2 a.m. telling one another about the test we have coming up or the immense beauty in our lives.

I can't drive by a Sonic without thinking of the one that is still going back in our small college town. See, in my big city hometown, not many people think of the happy hour at Sonic, but at my college, Sonic happy hour is what gets us through the week. Sometimes even three to four days of the week.

Yeah, we may have a minor obsession, but hey, when you have the two grand options of McDonald's and Sonic, you can't blame us.

Summer is winding down, which means move in day is approaching. Although leaving home is never easy, the thought of reuniting with my brunch buddies, sand-volleyball players, roommates, and Sonic happy hour-goers overflows my heart with happiness.

Oh, what a reunion it will be when we are all reunited in just a few short weeks!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
