The 9 Stages of Thanksgiving

Everything that takes place during Thanksgiving!

The 9 Stages of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is this week (finally)! And that means there is food, no school, no work, family time, and leftover food. All of which I suppose can be helpful if people are to wait in lines for black Friday sales the next day. Bless your souls and good luck with buying all of your chirstmas shopping, meanwhile I'll be doing it online safe from my bed after I've slept in until 2:00 in the afternoon! But before any of that drama happens, why don't we just take a moment to appreciate this Holiday for what actually happens during it.

1. Family time

It cannot just be my family that spends a good 20-30 minutes saying hello to everyone, giving hugs, asking the same questions, and eating any appetizer we can find.

2. The wait

My least favorite part of Thanksgiving is the actual waiting for the food, particularly the turkey, to be ready. I am forced to sit down and wait while I smell turkey, stuffing, vegetables, and more. Don't even get me started about waiting for the pie too!

3. Pass me the _____________!

Yay, I can finally eat food. But that means that so can everybody else, which means that food is getting passed around the table. The turkey is getting cut, the potatoes are getting served, the gravy and vegetables are getting passed, and I am struggling to be patient for my turn.

4. Putting more on my plate than I can eat

It's a struggle trying to eat every bite on my plate. I piled at least three servings of food and feel like I cannot eat another bite. But come dessert, that will not be a problem.

5. Maybe just one more bite?

Ok so maybe I can eat just one more bite. And another. Ok fine, last one.

6. The awkward time when people are trying to digest their food

It's quiet and only a few people are actually talking. Some are on their phones scrolling through Facebook or playing a random game. But I guess it's to be expected when you are trying to digest your food.

7. I am ready... for dessert!

My favorite part: Dessert. Pie, ice cream, cookies, etc. The more dessert, the better! I love being able to stuff my face with dessert: especially warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream.

8. Goodbye!

So after you have eaten all you can eat for dinner and stuffed your face with dessert, you say goodbye. The hugs, containers full of leftovers, and stories all leave and your thanksgiving is over! Now to binge tv and sleep.

9. Everyone who is not going black Friday shopping

Let us just accept the fact that this is an accurate representation of how we feel after thanksgiving. Stuffed, bloated, and still wanting leftovers! Those of you who are brave enough to exercise, good for you!

No matter how you celebrate or what traditions you have for thanksgiving, I hope it's a great one! Share some of your pictures or family traditions along with the article!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
