Everyone has been bouncing off the walls trying to get all their midterms done, finish the research papers, or turn in any missing credit that could boost the final grade. While that was going on, the only thing keeping people going were the ideas of an awesome and life-changing spring break that would all be worth it in the end. Now that the hustle is over, let's just discuss all the things you thought spring break would be like, versus how it could actually turn out.
1. Go on a week-long road trip with your favorite hometown friends
Until you realize just how broke you really are after buying many delivery pizzas and subway sandwiches. Unless you've been saving for a life-changing trip to go on this week, the only road trip you end up successfully completing is driving around your hometown blasting music while enjoying the new Shamrock Shake.
2. Getting a head start on your homework
It's what everybody says and the one thing almost everyone forgets to do. Or you remembered but decided it was way more important to get a head start on your favorite Netflix show you were waiting to watch until after midterms.
3. Catch up on your workout regimen
With as much studying as you probably did in the last couple weeks, the last thing on your mind was going to the gym. Now that you have the week off to recollect yourself and get down to business, suddenly your bed has become way too comfortable to leave.
4. Catch up with every family member and high school friend you have back home
It is nice to catch up with loved ones and hug the friends you've been dying to see since winter, but sometimes it's hard when everyone and their sister wants to see you all at the same time. And there will always be that one person you say "we definitely need to catch up sometime" to, but you know both of you are not planning on a future lunch.
5. Catching up on sleep
Seems easy enough, right? No homework, no classes. How hard can it be to sleep in an extra couple hours in the morning? Turns out, because of the problem stated above, you have a set schedule to follow. Breakfast with the best friend because she works at night. Lunch and shopping with your parents because they think you are starving, and maybe an early dinner with grandma who is upset you never have time to call, which then she will inevitably take you out to dessert to follow and by the end of the day you just want to play with your puppies rather than crawl into bed.
6. Eat at all your favorite restaurants
This goes right along with the money issue. It's so nice to be back home and hit up all your favorite restaurants for the best meal you've had in months, but unless your parents want to treat you, the only place you can have a "dinner date" at is probably McDonald's.
7. Spa day with the girls
Wouldn't it be great if you could just schedule a deep tissue massage or a nice mani/pedi? Yeah, it really would be. But after looking in your bank account looks like you'll be hitting up the drug stores for some nice polishes or masks.
8. Having too much time to do nothing
Just wait until your high school job boss finds out you're in town, or when grandma finds out you got back into town a couple days ago. Trust me, there will be no time for just yourself.
9. You won't want to go back to school
For some this may be true, and as nice as it is to be back in your hometown, living nostalgically and carefree, you'll miss the friends and identity you've made for yourself while away, and miss your university life just the same.
All of us make plans like these every spring break and even get disappointed when they don't always work out, but remember to take this time to relax and reconnect after a hectic midterms week. This is time for you to enjoy being back home and being surrounded by loved ones, so make sure you utilize it to the fullest.
