Who would have known that the lyrics I listened to when I was eight would still apply to my life ten years later?

14 Hannah Montana Quotes That Have Gotten Me Through The First Month Of College
Emily Farrell

In This Article:

Just like most girls in my generation, I spent the majority of my preteen years eating, sleeping, and breathing the lyrics of Hannah Montana. After all of these years, I still hear the same songs come up in my playlists (and often at the times that I need them most). The other day, as I heard "You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home" start playing on my phone, I realized how her lyrics were more applicable in my life today than they ever have been.

1. “So I might slip again, let it in now and then, that don’t mean anything I’m still good.” (I’m Still Good)

Because there's a lot of days that don't go as planned, but a bad day doesn't mean you can't move on!

2. “Everywhere I go is somewhere that I don’t know”  (Mixed Up)

Because even after a month of being on campus, I somehow still manage to get lost (usually when I'm already running late to class).

3. “I learned from you that I do not crumble, I learned that strength is something you choose.” (I Learned from You)

College has proven to be more difficult than anything in high school, but my parents have taught me that strength is not something that comes easily or to everyone.

4. “Don’t get what I want just ‘cause I want it” (Supergirl)

While I wish I could just wish for a 4.0 GPA and sit back and watch Netflix, it doesn't exactly work like that.

5. “All you have to do is call my name, no matter how close or far away” (Right Here)

For all of my friends who feel like they are a million miles away, I miss you incredibly and no matter what I'll always be a phone call or text away.

6. “You’re looking out for me you’ve got my back” (True Friend)

My roommates were my first friends here and have remained my two go-tos for anything and everything (whether it is pulling me out of bed in the morning or just being someone to talk to!)

7. “Gonna stay in bed today, ‘cause I can’t stand the light” (As I Am)

Monday Mornings. Just no.

8. “You used to call me your dreamer, and now I’m living out my dream” (I Miss You)

Because even though some of the family members I love didn't live to see me go off to college, I know they're looking down on me and giving me the strength to pursue my dreams.

9. “You were always there when I looked back” (Butterfly Fly Away)

It's really weird not having my little sister by my side anymore, since she is a part of every memory I have. However, I know that she will always be a part of my life, even if it isn't in the same ways as before.

10. “I have to wonder if this wave’s too big to ride” (Start All Over)

Sometimes, as I sit at my desk and do work, I wonder if I'm in the right major and if I can even handle this workload. But deep down, despite how hard it is, I know that this is the right path.

11. “Never try to push or make me different, when I talk you listen to me.” (As I Am)

Whether it's helping me decide what to eat for lunch, explaining how to do my chemistry homework, or being my shoulder to cry on after a bad day, my boyfriend has been my rock these past few weeks and I couldn't thank him enough.

12. “Why is this all so confusing, complicated and consuming” (Don’t Wanna Be Torn)

Because sometimes I just sit and stare at my textbook and wonder if it was written for actual human beings or freaky geniuses.

13. “There’s always gonna be another mountain, I’m always gonna wanna make it move.” (The Climb)

I'm a person who likes to get accomplish as many things as humanly possible, but sometimes there is just no way. While I would love to join every club and team that I can, I have found that balance is more important than burning myself out trying to do everything.

14. "You can laugh and cry but everybody knows, you’ll always find your way back home.” (You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home)

Because at the end of the day, no matter how comfortable I get at school, there is no place like home.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
