Rest In The Fact That You Were Handpicked By God

God chose you to be set apart from the world for a greater purpose. Rejection of man is not rejection of God.

Rest In The Fact That You Were Handpicked By God
Bailey Welshans

There comes a time in each one of our lives when we question our worth. We’re human, and life is hard. I get it.

BUT before you and I were ever born, and before the very foundations of the earth were formed, God chose us. He approved us and called us His own. You may have been overlooked by people in your life -- maybe friends, or even family. Maybe you were overlooked by someone whose opinion you actually cared about; but remember, God won’t EVER overlook you like that. He handpicked you, and He cares for His children. He chose you to be set apart from the world for a greater purpose. Rejection of man is not rejection of God. Let that truth sink down in your heart. You are God’s most valued possession. You are special. You are valuable. He knows everything about you; He even knows the number of hairs you have on your head.

God gave you the gifts and abilities you have for a purpose.

The situations you are facing right now have nothing to do with the love He has for you. Those are simply trials. Situations will not always go our way, storms will be bigger than we expect, and life will give us a run for our money sometimes. However, we still do have a purpose, and so do our situations. On those days we feel as though nothing goes our way, we are given an opportunity to turn to God, cast our cares to Him, and feel a sense of peace. I have definitely had days in which from the moment I woke up, nothing seemed to go my way. One time, I had a huge headache, a stuffy nose, and a bad cough the minute I woke up.

I got to school and more things went wrong. I could already tell this was the kind of day I wish would already end. Overwhelmed with anxiety and frustration, I went to the bathroom and just cried. I tried pushing through the day, and when It was finally over I went home and continued crying. I thought days like this would be over (let me say, I had a whole week of days like this a month ago), but that obviously that wasn’t true.

That night, I read something I found on Twitter, and it was something I definitely needed.

Situations like the one I was facing, were simply little and unimportant things mushed all together. Before I even had time to process my thoughts that day, my flesh got in the way. If I had given it to God first thing, it wouldn’t have even needed to cross my mind how to solve it. Here’s the thing: You carry great value and significance. God doesn’t do things to you as a divine exercise of His power. He lets storms come to show you how much reliance you could have on him. Looking at problems in a worldly view will cause anxiety and stress, but looking at them through the eyes of Jesus as a chosen child will give you power to destroy them before they can destroy you. Nothing will ever be too big for him to handle. His children are His beloved. So, don’t ever lose sight of that fact that you have got this whole life thing down.

You just need to keep going and rest in the fact that you are handpicked by God. Chosen. Redeemed. Set apart. That’s who you are.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
