When things pile up in life, it can be overwhelming

Have you ever hit a point in your life where you feel like everything is falling apart, you do not know if you are going to make it through the next hour let alone the week? I have, several times. Life is stressful! Especially when you are a young adult. You have to now start worrying about money, bills, and your future. Making big decisions and dealing with everyday life can pile up and overwhelm you. I am here to tell you that you will get through this! My roommate's saying is that, "it's okay to not be okay." Take a deep breath, and I will tell you what helps me overcome my worries in life.

1. Take a Break

Pulling all-nighters just to finish work and get things done is not healthy!! Especially if you continue to not sleep for several nights in a row. Even if you do get sleep at night, it is good to take at least a 20 minute nap. You will feel so refreshed and new. I clears your head, and helps you to restart your brain. Do not think about anything, turn off all the lights, set an alarm, and snuggle into your bed. Even if you don't sleep, it gives your brain a nice relaxing time.

2. Exercise

This might cause you more stress if you think about running for 3 miles, but when I say exercise, I mean anything that gets you moving. Turn on the Wii and play "Just Dance" for 20 minutes, go find a path outside to walk on, do some yoga; whatever makes you release some endorphins!

3. Alone time

I am an extroverted introvert. I love people!! But I also love staying at home all day in my bed in my pjs with a good book or marathoning Netflix. Sometimes you need some time alone to process your thoughts. Go find somewhere quiet. A stairwell, an abandoned classroom, a park bench. Bring some music, a book, or whatever you want to occupy yourself with. Sometimes just sitting in the quiet can bring you peace.

4. Be organized

Buy a planner, invest in a calendar, leave yourself a few sticky notes as reminders! As a fairly neat person, having my life in order with some sort of loose plan relaxes me. I look ahead at my work, and make sure I figure out enough time to get things done, study, and have a bit of 'free time' every once in a while.

5. Pray

I find that spending some time with God helps me reset my mindset. I find a quiet place with my bible and journal, put on some music, and do my devotions. It helps me remember that God is in control of my life, he is working for me, and he will not fail me!

Psalm 55:22 "Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken."

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
