Hamilton Apparently 'Harassed' The VP-Elect

On Friday evening this past week, Vice President-elect, Mike Pence, got the ultimate pleasure of seeing "Hamilton: An American Musical" in New York City. He walked in, along with his family and his security team, and as can be heard in the video, there was a mixture of cheers and boos from the audience behind him.

You can watch the video here:

The cast proceeded with the show, and I'm sure that it was an amazing one at that. Now, afterwards, the cast always takes final bows and thanks the audience for attending the show. But this certain night, they added a bit of a statement for the VP-elect. Below, you can view the statement that the "Hamilton: An American Musical" Twitter page (@HamiltonMusical) tweeted Saturday afternoon.

As you can see in the statement and video above, Brandon Dixon (portrays Aaron Burr), who delivered the said statement said absolutely nothing insulting to Mike Pence. He simply said what a lot of minorities are feeling in this dire time in our nation. We want to feel safe among other Americans, as well as protect our families in the best way that we can. With the recent election, people have truly shown their ugly sides to their friends, their neighbors, and co-workers, and many of us minorities are scared for not only ourselves but our children as well.

Now, taking this information, you would think that our country would take this as some sort of sign. But no, of course not. This morning, President-elect Donald Trump then tweets out: "Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of "Hamilton," cameras blazing. This should not happen!"

Following this up, he tweets:

I am going to take a stab at it and say that the cast of "Hamilton" will not apologize, and they certainly do not have anything to apologize for. What's so wrong with demanding that ALL of America needs to be held under the same respect? As president and vice president, they make and assist on many plans that can change our lives. So why not ask the Vice President-elect to open his ears and realize that all of us are American citizens, so treat us like it — no matter what color we are, not matter who we decide to kiss, and no matter what religion we practice. If that's 'harassment,' but "grabbing them by the p*ssy" isn't, then I think that we have much bigger problems at hand.

To make this entire situation even more hilarious, Trump Supporters are now saying that they want to #BoycottHamilton. People who have already bought tickets for "Hamilton" are reportedly ripping them up (even though I haven't seen any pictures as proof just yet) and those who have not purchased their tickets, are simply saying that they will not be going to the Broadway show. Does anyone else realize that this show is pretty much sold out for the next two years? And what good does ripping up your tickets do? You still put money in their pockets, so you're really just fooling yourself. If you really wanted to boycott, you could have instead sold your tickets and maybe, put the money into the charity of your choice? I don't know, I'm just a dumb liberal.

"Hamilton" is about love, jealousy, life-long friendships, and diversity. If you especially can't stand for that last part, then you simply do not deserve to see "Hamilton" at all.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours.
