Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, otherwise known as her stage name Halsey, became an overnight sensation from her first single ‘Ghost’ released on soundcloud. Described as an electro-pop artist, Halsey writes music to not only relate to fellow listeners, but to hope that people will understand and accept what she writes about. However, if you are a true Halsey fan you will know that there is so much more to Halsey than just her music. Even though her music is a big part of her, here are 8 characteristics of Halsey that show that she is more than just a singer/songwriter.

1. Relateable Social Media Posts

-When it comes to the 140-word count on twitter, our girl comes second to none. She is not afraid to express her thoughts on self-confidence, embracing life and youth, body shaming, gender issues, and race. (Oh, and politics).

2. Her Body Confidence

-”Yo calling me ‘fat’ and ‘chubby’ is not gonna create a force field around the pizza headed for my mouth. I like the way I look. Get bent.”-Halsey tweeted one day to her followers. And with her shoot for playboy, Halsey gets real about confidence saying “ Put me on a stage in front of 100,00 people...You can’t scare me.”

3. Appreciation for her fans

-Halsey has always from day 1 shown appreciation for her dedicated fans. She is constantly giving them shout-outs on twitter; ranting about how much she loves them. In an interview with Halsey’s fans, Savana Ogburn discovered that her fans say that listening to Halsey’s music has inspired them to be themselves.

4. She Defines who a Badass Performer is

-Once her foot steps on whatever stage she is given, Halsey rocks the house every single time. She is able to portray her emotions and the meanings behind her brutally honest and heartfelt lyrics as she sings. Not only does she sound amazing live, but her outfits slay as well.

5. She rocked the Blue-Haired Goddess look

-Halsey has been known for her many hair styles, with one of the most famous being the blue-mermaid stage. She started the look around September of 2014 and can be seen rocking it on the cover of her badlands album.

6. And Currently rocks the shaved look

-Halsey proves yet again how powerful she can be when she ditched the aqua strands for a shaved look. She proved with this look that she doesn’t need any stand out color to continue to skyrocket to success. She really is a cut above the rest.

7. She is more than a Hashtag

-Some people refer to Halsey as “#Tri-Bi” meaning bisexual, bipolar, and biracial. Yes, she had admitted to being all three, but sees herself and those three things as more than just a hashtag. She says, “I wouldn’t trivialize my existence into a hashtag.” You tell ‘em girl.

8. She encourages all Women to embrace their bodies

-Along with embracing her own body, Halsey encourages all women to love and treat well the bodies that they are in.

Not only is Halsey an amazing artist for her age, but she continues to use her fame to her advantage to inspire her fans through her social media, personality characteristics, and her performances onstage. This is what makes Halsey a truly unique artist for being more than just her music.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
