5 Ways To Get Into The Halloween Spirit This Season

In This Article:

Dear friends,

October is here and that means a lot of things are coming up! Cold weather, Halloween, candy, interesting costumes, spooky movies, and so on. Now is the time to get out your fall sweaters and moccasins, and get cozy. No more 90-degree weather (thank goodness), and no more wondering whether or not you should wear pants or shorts for the week.

Sit on down and get a nice cup a coffee, because I'm about to give you some different ideas to get you all into the Halloween spirit! Enjoy.

1. Get Crazy W/ Your Costumes

YouTube

I understand that Halloween is the very last day of October, but the beauty of it is that a lot of people celebrate it at different times. College kids can go to different Halloween parties around campus, which means they can get multiple costumes to wear. I'm already going as Spider-Man and Jake Peralta from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Do I have parties to go to? I don't as of now, and I probably won't later, but who cares? Maybe I'll have friends over for a scary movie night and we all have to wear costumes. Maybe I will go around campus in my costume one day just to be "that guy." Different neighborhoods have different trick-or-treat nights, so kids can get dressed up more than once! You're never too old to get creative, and put on a costume for the Halloween Spirit. Get creative and make some costumes!

2. Scary Movie Marathon

YouTube

Scary movies? I'm down. Sure, there is a HUGE split between people who enjoy horror movies and those who don't, but what's not to like about a scary movie marathon and some candy with friends? If you aren't a fan of scary movies, put on some of those classic Disney Channel Original Movies like Twitches or the HalloweenTown series! You can never go wrong with those. Get a couple friends over, put out some snacks and candy, and have a spooky night together!

3. Carve Some Pumpkins

YouTube

Now I am not a fan of this activity because I am absolutely awful at it, but some people enjoy it! You can go get some pumpkins at a pumpkin patch, and bring home to make some funky designs with friends and family. Even if you don't enjoy carving pumpkins, you can still decorate them with paint, and turn them into cute characters from movies or TV shows. There's always different ways to get festive during this time of year, and that's the beauty of it. Get some pumpkins and put them on your porch, or decorate them and display them in your house! If you're looking for something unique to do for this holiday, pumpkin carving is the way to go.

4. Haunted Hay Rides/Houses

YouTube

This is probably one of my favorite things to do. Last year I went on a haunted hayride with my a cappella group, and it was such a great time. Sure, I was scared to death and I screamed during most of the attraction, but I was able to do it with some great friends. You may be terrified during the ride/attraction, but afterward, you will laugh about it so much. If you want to check out my experience from last year, go to this link to watch the vlog! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Txmp-zpfcTA)

I'm telling you, it is worth getting the crap scared out of you.

5. Go to an Orchard/Corn Maze

YouTube

This is for people who don't necessarily enjoy getting scared, and would rather do something in the fall weather with some friends. I enjoy going to this one orchard near my house because you can go apple/pumpkin picking, travel through a corn maze, get some fall-themed snacks, and enjoy some time outside! You may not think there is an orchard/farm near you with all of these things, but I'm sure if you looked it up you would be surprised with the search results. Get outside and enjoy sometime getting lost in a really confusing corn maze!

Some people may not enjoy Halloween, and that's okay! People may bash on you for not liking it, but don't worry about that. You can still get festive by decorating your house with lights and fall-themed items to make it seem like you are in the Halloween spirit. Do something exciting this year for this holiday, and get scary (but not too scary for the young ones).

I really hope you all enjoyed this article. I post one once a week about many different topics, so make sure to come back next week for another article! Enjoy your week, stay healthy, and have fun!

Your Friend,

Al

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
