How To Get Spooky On A Budget

It's the most wonderful time of the year. Halloween! It's so exciting, but ya wanna know what's not? Being poor.

Having very little money at this time of year is very hard because all I want to do is buy spooky decorations and get a really awesome costume. That under $10 section at Target keeps calling my name, but even $10 is a lot of money.

However, I'm trying not to let money issues get me down, so here's how I've been getting spooky on a budget, and you can too.

Don't cry, CRAFT!

You're a student, you have paper. If not, for some odd reason, you have a computer, or access to one and also access to printers! Draw, or print out, some cool spooky stuff!

Just google some rad pictures of ghost and bats and skulls, or whatever you're into it. Steal some tape from your library and tape them around your room or house!

See, look, you're already in the Halloween spirit and you didn't spend any money!

Not in the spooky spirit yet?

Well, boot up your Netflix because they have a whole Halloween section this time of year! The have a lot of good stuff on there. From "The Conjuring" to "Coraline," or even the Scream movies if you wanna have a laugh instead. Also, there's really bad horror movies on Netflix. Or even "Mickey's House of Villains" if you're having a rough day and want to relive your childhood.

There's nothing like a night in with your friends and watching some spooky movies, scary or not. Also, if you really wanna party just wait until November 1st and buy all the now discounted candy and watch these movies. Spooky season doesn't have to be limited to October!

Now it's time for the most important part. Costumes.

Costuming on a budget can actually be super easy. Ladies, just put on the sluttiest thing you own and say you're a cat or Britney Spears.

If you're not comfy with that I do have other ideas. Own any band T-Shirts? Cool, wear that with a pair of jeans and say you're either a member of the band or a groupie. Or, maybe put on a cute dress and carry around a stick and say you're a fairy.

Now fellas,

(YEAH!)

Sorry, I think I'm funny.

Anyway, cheap costumes for you may be a little harder to come by. If you put on something slutty you might scare people. Or try it, and say you're a drag queen.

Other great ideas are put on your dress clothes and say you're Jim Halpert. Add three black circles to it and you're a three hole punch.

Don't wanna wear your dress clothes for Halloween? Put on a flannel and you're a lumberjack or Andy Dwyer.

Hopefully, this helped, so we can all get spooky together regardless of budgets.

Enjoying your spooking.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
