Halloween is undoubtedly one of the best times of the year. As soon as there is even the slightest chill in the air and the leaves start to change from green to the beautiful reds and oranges of Autumn, I am automatically on full blown Halloween mode. Pumpkin candle burning, candy corn stocked, and Halloween costume picked out all even before the clock strikes 12 on October 1st. Along with all of the candy and pumpkin spice that Fall and Halloween bring, nothing quite gets you in the mood for the season like some Halloween films, especially if you are as obsessed with Halloween as I am. With so many spooky films to choose from, I’ve narrowed it down to the 13 best for you to watch. If you’re anything like me, you should be able to fit all of these thrilling movies before the 31st!
13. Monster House
A great movie that reminds me of my childhood. Not too scary, not too boring.
12. HalloweenTown 2
Alright! I mean, the sequel is usually not as good as the original, but I’m definitely down to watch this.
11. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Not scary, but cute. How could you turn down Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts clan?
10. The Addams Family
I need a valid excuse to sing the theme song obnoxiously! Also, how can’t you love this family? Plus, Wednesday is so relatable.9. Silence of the Lambs
Now we’re getting scary! And creepy… I’m probably having a nightmare after this flick.
8. Casper Meets Wendy
Everyone’s favorite friendly ghost AND Hilary Duff!? It's a win-win situation.
7. Donnie Darko
Young Jake Gyllenhaal...swoon. Just the right amount of teenage angst and terror. Perfect for Halloween time
6. Corpse Bride
You can count me in for anything directed by Tim Burton and stars Johnny Depp. The vision and overall animation in this movie are amazing. An amazing Halloween movie for all ages!
5. Hocus Pocus
A fun movie starring Sarah Jessica Parker! This movie is absolutely hilarious and something you can enjoy for many Halloweens to come.
4. Psycho
Alfred Hitchcock outdid himself for this one. I’m not one to spoil, so you’re going to have to watch this one and see Norman Bates for yourself.
3. Halloweentown
I’ve seen this movie so many times, I can recite it line by line. This movie is so entertaining and as good as most Disney movies tend to be. You’ll not only fall in love with the characters, but with Halloweentown, too.
2. Scream
This one is iconic for more reasons than one. Not your typical or predictable teen horror, but an intricate and interesting plot. This one will keep you on your toes and give you that spooky Halloween feeling that we all love.
1. The Nightmare Before Christmas
I’m honestly not sure if this is more of a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie but I am sure that it is one of the BEST movies. The songs, Jack Skellington, Sally, Zero, the animations, the story- there is a lot to love. This movie teaches some amazing lessons and is both scary and heart-warming at the same time. As someone who loves Tim Burton, I believe that this is easily his best film, and one that is applicable to all ages. A classic that many generations will enjoy, nothing says, “This is Halloween” like The Nightmare Before Christmas.
