Hey Readers!

I wanted to do a fun article for Halloween rather than a poem or an open letter. Around this time of year, I watch a lot of Halloween movies. I've decided to place some of them (these are not all of them and in no particular order!) here; maybe one is your favorite too! I hope everyone has a safe, magical, and exciting Halloween!

Hocus Pocus (Rated: PG, 1993)

From Left: Kathy Najimy (Mary Sanderson), Bette Midler (Winifred Sanderson), and Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah Sanderson) as the witch sisters. variety.com

Teenager Max Dennison explores an old house with his little sister, Dani, and friend, Allison. A mishap causes him to free three witches from 1600s Salem. This movie is filled with music, humor, and spells abound!

Van Helsing (Rated: PG-13, 2004)

From Left to Right: Hugh Jackman (Gabriel Van Helsing) and Kate Beckinsale (Anna Valerious). variety.com

Gabriel Van Helsing is one of the most formidable slayers around. His skills take him to Transylvania to assist Anna in maintaining her family's bloodline against the infamous vampire, Dracula. This movie is action-packed and filled with legendary figures of lore.

Beetlejuice (Rated: PG, 1988)

From Left: Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice), Geena Davis (Barbara Maitland), and Alec Baldwin (Adam Maitland)time.com

After a couple die in a car accident, they are confronted with a new family moving into their home. Both are determined to scare them away and team up with an odd spirit who goes by the name "Beetlejuice." This pick is music, comedy, and a little spooky all in one!

The Addams Family (Rated:PG-13, 1991)

From Left: Christopher Lloyd (Uncle Fester) and Anjelica Huston (Morticia Addams)imdb.com

The Addams Family is greeted by a visit from Uncle Fester, long-lost brother of patriarch Gomez. All is well until the family's matriarch, Morticia, sees signs that their guest may be an impostor. If you aren't familiar with the Addams family, get ready for plenty of dark charm and humor!

The Nightmare Before Christmas (Rated: PG, 1993)

Chris Sarandon and Danny Elfman lend their voices to Jack Skellington as he speaks and sings (respectively) to the citizens of Halloween.unilad.co.uk

Jack Skellington is the king of Halloween and of the various spooky citizens of his town. When the forlorn scare master finds himself in a world unknown, the chance to make Christmas frightful is too good to pass up. One of my absolute favorites that will leave you singing and entranced from beginning to end!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
