For some mysterious reason, Halloween seems to inspire fervent love or visceral disdain, with no seemingly happy medium in between. Some of my friends have been fantasizing about what costumes to wear since Oct. 1 rolled around, and yet some have chosen to ignore the spooky holiday altogether. Halloween attracts those who delight in the thrill of being scared senseless and also those who just love to get a little dressed up for a night (whether it be creepy or cute). For me personally, I tend to lean on the side of favoring the haunted Halloween spirit, and here are a few reasons why:
1. It's a joint holiday for both children and adults! While kids are trick-or-treating and getting some delicious candy, adults are getting ready to attend some lively costume themed parties.
2. It is a holiday less concerned with being politically correct. Let's face it, we all have opinions and bias, and Halloween is the perfect time to poke just a little fun at how you feel about certain issues. (You can sometimes subtly show it through your costume!)
3. Candy corn. Need I say more?
4. Going to a haunted house because nothing beats being scared with some of your closest friends.
5. Decorating your house/apartment with carved pumpkins. (It adds to the perfect Halloween mood!)
Regardless of whether halloween is your favorite holiday or if you try and avoid the festivities altogether, Halloween is a sign that fall is in full effect. If halloween is not your first choice in the seasonal calendar, the end of October means that Thanksgiving is close behind and Christmas is not very far from the picture!
