Inside the Magic

It's that time of year again! People from all over are looking for a scare and there's no where scarier that Halloween Horror Nights. From the moment you step into the park you become a target by the hundreds of scarers looking for their next victim. With only one safe zone, not including the bathrooms, you're bound to lose your voice by the end of the night. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you survive and make the most of your night. Who knows, you MIGHT stand a chance.

1. Get there early.

You want to be able to be right in front of the gate to be the first to enter the park and witness when the alarms blare and the scarers come out to play, revealing themselves from a wall of fog.

2. Go straight to the American Horror Story house.

Because it's the first time this house makes an appearance in Horror Nights and has a large fan base it has been this year's most popular attraction. And it was TERRIFYING!

3. Keep hydrated.

Especially if you are attending Horror Nights in Orlando. You'll be doing a fair share of sweating.

4. Wear comfortable shoes!

You will be doing a lot of walking. This is not the time to dress to impress, this is serious. If you want to be running away from zombies and chainsaws in heels or weak flip flops be my guest, but you've been warned.

5. If you think acting like you're tough in front of a scarer is slick, you'll regret it.

You've just become an even bigger target.

6. If you're in a large group, go in the houses conga line style.

You glide right through the house without tripping on anyone and everyone has the ability to either take in the whole experience, shove their face in the back of the person in front of them or just run for your life.

7. COUPLES, do not enter a house with your arms linked, side-by-side.

You think you're safer this way but you just made yourselves a larger and easier target for the scarers.

8. Take advantage of the rides too!

While the majority of the people in the park are waiting to enter the houses, they don't notice that the line for the rides are only a 5-20 minute wait. What I usually do when I go is alternate, go to a house and then go on a ride. It gives you a little break from the screaming and constant paranoia that someone is stalking you, which is most likely true.

9.You may want to take some pain killers, trust me at the end of the night you'll be exhausted and your feet will be killing you.

10. Pay attention to everything!

You'll be surprised by the attention to detail put into these attractions. It'll blow your mind! The makeup on the scarers, the music, the smells in the houses, the ambiance of the entire experience, you are thrown into a whole other world.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
