Halloween is fast approaching. My little cousins have already picked out or made their costumes—ready for the ultimate sugar rush and candy coma that is soon to come. As a kid, I loved Halloween. I loved picking out the perfect costume and overdosing on candy.

But it always seemed like a mashup holiday to me. While I was preparing for trick or treating, my Mom was stocking up on food for Thanksgiving and hauling our Christmas tree up from the basement. As a result, as an adult I feel like Halloween has lost a bit of its luster and is now just a bump in the road to an even bigger, more important holiday—Christmas!

Yes, Christmas. Truly the most wonderful time of the year. Even department stores get in on the Christmas craze by releasing Black Friday ads and displaying Christmas decorations when most kids haven't finished eating their Halloween candy. But don't run from the Christmas craze!

Here are 5 reasons why you should embrace your crazy Christmas self before December:

1) Great shopping deals

I'm a poor college student who sometimes survives on Kraft Mac n' Cheese and Ramen Noodles. Why wouldn't I want to save money?

2) Halloween has a limited song and movie collection

Tim Burton was one of the very few pioneers who attempted to put us in the spirit of Halloween by creating songs and movies for the holiday. But even he couldn't keep up with the sheer volume of Christmas music and movies that are in existence.

Let's face it, Christmas movies and music get us in the spirit of celebrating Christmas. Halloween's limited selection can only go so far when it comes to getting us in the celebration mood.

3) To irritate other people

For some reason, the Scrooges of the world consider people who celebrate holidays early a pet peeve. Why not watch their reactions when you tell them you're putting up your Christmas tree before Thanksgiving?

4) Preparing more now means less stress later

Christmas is a great, but also crazy time of year. There are the decorations, food, shopping, wrapping, and the occasional nervous breakdown. Crazy family members are coming and it's up to you to be ready for their arrival.

5) Because it's fun!!

Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy and laughter so why not prolong it?

No matter what your opinions of Christmas, have fun this holiday season!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
