Once upon a time when I was little I enjoyed Halloween. It was a time to dress up in a fun costume, carve pumpkins, and get free candy. But as I've gotten older I've come to the conclusion that Halloween just isn't fun anymore. Now the holiday is all about creepy, scary things that cause you not to sleep at night instead of innocent fun.
As a person who hates being scared, Halloween is no longer enjoyable for me and makes me miss the days of simply putting on cool costume and having fun. While the holiday seems to appeal to a lot of people, for people like me it's a nightmare.
Here's 5 reasons why I don't think Halloween is fun anymore:
1. Haunted Houses
Gone are the days when I would go to fall festivals filled with pumpkins and cute decorations. Now it's all about people dressed in costumes jumping out from behind corners and giving me heart attacks. Why would I ever want to pay money to give me chest pains?
2. Scary Movies
I'm not talking about the cute little kid Halloween movies, I mean the type where you can't sleep for a week because the images are stuck in your head. Whether it's demonic, horror, torture, ghosts, or anything else that makes me curl up in a ball because of fear I'm staying far away from it.
3. Creepy Costumes
I don't like seeing creepy characters on the movie screen already, so seeing people I know dressed up and these characters can be a little disturbing to me.
4. Skimpy Costumes
The costumes (or lack of) make me pretty uncomfortable, and I'm just going to assume they aren't very comfortable to wear either. You can get the point across of whatever character you're supposed to be with a few more inches of fabric, I promise.
5. People who take Halloween too far
I get it, some people enjoyed being scared. I do however think there is a line that shouldn't be crossed. You know, when you see on the news the next day that someone's real knife was used to hurt someone, witchcraft took place, or maybe some type of satan worshipping happened. While those are extreme example several other more mild but still strange behavior takes place on Halloween night as well. Somehow inappropriate behavior seems to be more acceptable on Halloween all in the sake of scaring people.
What's most important is to be safe on Halloween. Whether you're taking kids around the neighborhood or dressed up for a night out, you should always pay attention to your surrounding and report any strange activity that you may see. Being scared because someone jumps out at you is one thing, but make sure to never put yourself in a dangerous situation or remain anywhere that you don't feel comfortable.
