These days, it's hard to come up with original Halloween costumes. Most of us just stick with a bunny or the devil since it's an easy last-minute costume, but year after year, that can get repetitive and boring. Some may even think you're basic just for wearing those costumes since they're so played out now. However, fear not, here's a list of original Halloween costumes that no other will have.
1. Spongebob themed biker gang
Get a few friends together, grab some leather jackets, and paint "The Mild Ones" on the back, and you've got that elderly biker gang from Spongebob. Or, if you're really feeling it, you could be the actual Wild Ones, and add some grunge and grit to look like a real biker gang. However, I'm sure the Spongebob reference will get a few laughs when you explain it if you're going for more of a joke. Honestly though, you could probably make a costume out of just about any Spongebob episode. You could even be a popular Spongebob meme. The world is your oyster.
2. Any Vine
Honestly, you can't go wrong with vines. Dress up like the guy who almost dropped his croissant. Dress up like the girl who wants to know how Ms. Keisha is doing. Dress up like the girl who vapes at the party. Dress up like the guy who has never been to Oovoo Javer. The possibilities are absolutely endless, and I'm sure this one will get you a laugh, too.
3. A Disney princess
You just can't go wrong with a Disney movie. However, don't wear your princess costume from the sixth grade. Try to make it a little more cute and original. For example, if you're going for Jasmine, wear a crop top and some looser fitting pants, then accessorize accordingly.
4. Juno and Bleeker
If you have a mans, this could be a perfect couples costume. Just look up a picture and find some clothes at your nearest Goodwill.
5. A League of Their Own
Ya know, the baseball movie with Tom Hanks where girls step up and show their stuff to their haters. All you really need is an old-fashioned pink dress, a baseball mitt, and a hat. For more ideas, check out some pictures online.
6. Gumball machine
Get a two-piece red outfit (bandeau top and skirt), grab a hot glue gun, and attach some multi-colored puff balls to the top. Then, complete the look with a little label on the bottoms for change.
7. Scooby Doo
Velma or Daphne. Pick your poison.
8. Pick an actor
Grab some friends and choose an actor or actress -- Will Ferrell, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway -- that's played multiple larger known roles. Each of you pick a different movie character that they've played, then customize your outfit accordingly!
9. Pick a TV show
One Tree Hill, FRIENDS, That 70's Show, Gossip Girl, The Office -- you know the drill.
10. Throw it back
Remember your favorite shows and cartoons growing up? The most popular movies that kept you glued to the screen? Embody one of those ideas! You can be Arthur, Ashley Spinelli from Recess, Arnold from the Magic School Bus, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Susie Carmichael from Rugrats, Michelle Tanner from Full House, Jessie Spano from Saved by the Bell, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Amanda Bynes in her very own Amanda Show, Topanga Lawrence from Boy Meets World, any character from Sister, Sister, The Powderpuff Girls, Teen Titans, Danny Phantom, or Fairly Odd Parents.
I guess the point is you can really get creative with these costumes, and there's a list of endless possibilities out there. A lot of these outfits would probably be low-budget, so you wouldn't have to spend an arm and a leg for the costume unless you really wanted to. You can make it a DIY project with friends or a shopping day. Any character from a TV show, cartoon, or movie also has the option of standing alone instead of making it a group plan. Throw around different ideas with others, and even if you don't like anything listed here, hopefully, it inspired an idea in the back of your head. Just have fun with it.
Happy Halloween.
