It's that time of the year again! Halloween is coming up! You know that that means. Pumpkin everything and costumes everywhere! So, here's the big question. What are you going to be this year? There're so many possibilities.

The first question you have to ask yourself is, "Am I actually going to dress up this year?" After a certain age, you feel "too old" to go Trick-or-Treating anymore. That's something only children do right? So, if you're not hitting the pavement on the hunt for delicious treats, why even dress up? There's still parties to go to. Besides that, it's just plain fun to dress up! For one month out of the year, you get to dress up and be absolutely whatever, or whoever you want!

Now that you've decided to dress up, you have to buy the costume. This is the tricky part. Half the costumes are super specific, and the other half is kinda frumpy. But that's not even the worst of it! If you've ever been to a Halloween costume shop within the past few years, you'll have seen the drastic change that's happened. Costumes are no longer fun and silly and sometimes spooky. No. There are only a few themes in costumes nowadays, and it makes me sick.

Adult costumes are only "sexy", meaning too short. It just makes you look like a prostitute. Two years ago, I tried to get a fairy costume. My favorite fantasy artist had a line of Halloween costumes that were being made, and I was ecstatic to get the chance to dress up as one of her beautiful fairies. My mom buys the costume in the correct size and gets it home to me. When I try it on, it's cheap and revealing. If I had gotten a bigger size, it would've been too big to wear. But the size that fit barely covered anything. I looked like I was about ready to work a street corner in New York, not take my little sister Trick-or-Treating. Needless to say, I pitched that costume idea real quick.

Children's costumes are no better! You can't find a decent, modest costume anymore. Like I mentioned, I have little sisters, and there's no way I'd want them prancing around at night in a dress that doesn't cover anything.

Then there's the rest of the store. Everything else is just dead babies and what appear to be horrific sex toys. I honestly have never felt more uncomfortable in my life. I know that Halloween is supposed to be scary, and you're supposed to be freaked out. But it's honestly gone way too far. The past 6 years I've had to either make my own costume or repeat old ones because there aren't any decent ones out there. My mom refuses to go costume shopping anymore with my sisters.

I've probably spent this entire article complaining, but I think someone had to say something about the horrific and disgusting outfits that are being displayed for Halloween. It makes me sick to my stomach. This year, let's try to do something about it. Let's put forth extra effort to have good, decent costumes this year and make it a wonderful, fun Halloween. Happy spooking!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
