Maybe you live in Delhi, Reading, or Clifton, many spots where clowns were spotted late in September. Or, perhaps, you just love getting festive by going apple picking or selecting your pumpkin to become the best Jack-O-Lantern. For some reason, you might be looking for a date night or a group outing at one of Cincinnati's finest haunted, fright, or scare attractions. Whatever you want, Cincinnati has it. Here are six things to do in Cincinnati this October.
1. USS Nightmare - Newport
Over 30 minutes long, there are two levels on this boat that have been made into a Halloween scare event. Located at 101 Riverboat Row in Newport, KY, you can easily have dinner at Newport and then make your way down to the boat. USS Nightmare has a 15 percent "jump rate" in which people leave the attraction, because it is just that good of a scare. There are group rates, but as long as you make it to the ticket booth line before closing time, you'll be guaranteed entry. Check out their website for rates, times, and dates for special events.
2. Dent Schoolhouse - Dent
An old, Cincinnati public school that opened in 1894, Dent Schoolhouse, is now home to one of the most popular and known Halloween "fright sites" in Cincinnati. It IS haunted! There are many different types of tours you can take through Dent Schoolhouse, an old schoolhouse on the West Side of Cincinnati that has been around for a good amount of time. The actors will not grab you unless it is an accident (things happen) but, on their website, they assure you that you'll be fine. You can go lights out, lights on -- favorable for little ones or people who want to see the schoolhouse differently -- or the ghost tours. These tours dates can be found on their website.
3. Halloween Haunt - Mason
One of my favorites is Halloween Haunt at Kings Island up in Mason. Not only can you go through haunted houses, see different characters around the park, and eat really good food, but you can also ride all the rides! This is great, and if you have kids, Kings Island runs a kid-friendly Halloween during the day in Planet Snoopy. It's well worth it, and there are multiple haunted houses to go through. You won't get bored!
4. Niederman Family Farms - Hamilton
With the Pumpkin Patch, Bonfires, and fall treats, Niederman Family Farm is a place I have always heard about. There are different corn mazes to do and makes a great date or family outing. Go pick your pumpkins to become scary Jack-O-Lanterns outside on Halloween. It's 11 dollars per person, two and under are free, which is a great deal.
5. Haunted Hayride & Bog - Springboro
Whether you just do the hayride or the bog, Springboro's Haunted Hayride has been a favorite for people to go to. The rides only operate on Friday and Saturday, but tickets for the hayride are 12 dollars each, as well as the bog, but you can get a combo for 22 dollars. Well worth it!
6. Terror at the Drive-In - Hamilton
Drive-Ins are great! But how much better is it when you can watch scary movies and watch different characters, whether just scary costumes or famous but creepy movie characters, walk around and come up to your car? At Holiday Auto Theatre's "Terror at the Drive-In" they won't touch you, don't worry, but they might chase you to the bathroom or around your car. Once it gets later, the actors don't walk around, but for 8.75 dollars per adult and a five dollar food permit (as much food as you bring in your car), it's a good deal. Two or three movies might be shown, whether they're comical, Halloween movies or ones to scare you, but it is my favorite Halloween activity, and I highly recommend it.
Whether you want the ultimate scare, a good date night, or a few Halloween movies to watch, Cincinnati is full of options. Get your friends together and have fun with all of the Fall and Halloween themed attractions in Cincinnati.
