Everybody loves holidays; there's Independence Day, Christmas, Hanukkah, and many, many more. However, of all the holidays, there is one that takes the cake and surpasses them all: Halloween. Celebrated on Oct. 31st every year, this holiday is one that appeals to all ages, sexes, and most religious denominations. How could you not love Halloween? Here are 13 reasons that prove Halloween is the most superior of all the holidays:

1. Dressing up

Let’s be honest, no matter how old you are, dressing up for Halloween is always fun. Whether you go all-out with a full face of zombie makeup or whether you choose to dress like a sexy firefighter, Halloween is the one time of the year that you can dress however you want, and nobody can say anything about it. Plus, you can make your own DIY costumes, letting you be as creative and out-of-the-box as you please.

2. Scary movies

Sure, you can watch horror movies year-round, but the experience is ten times better during the Halloween season. Everything just seems creepier knowing Halloween is right around the corner. There are also countless television specials leading up to and on Halloween that make the holiday even more enjoyable (See #10).

3. ALL. THE. CANDY.

Just like costumes, candy is a traditional staple of Halloween. Age is irrelevant on this holiday; people of all ages pig out on tons and tons of candy with absolutely no regrets. Halloween is the perfect excuse to indulge your sweet tooth and eat all the candy your heart desires. Not to mention, this is the one time of the year that it’s acceptable to take candy from strangers.

4. Carving pumpkins

Pumpkin everything is everywhere during Fall, so it only makes sense that they would be another traditional staple of the unrivaled holiday. Carving a pumpkin can be hard work, but when you’re done, you’ll not only have a great decoration, but you’ll also have tons of pumpkin seeds to roast. And if you’re a little weird like me, you might even enjoy scooping out the pumpkin guts. Pumpkin carving is a fun activity to do with family and friends, and it allows you to show off your mad carving skills.

5. Anyone can participate

Unlike many other holidays, Halloween is nondenominational, and anyone can participate. For this reason alone, I love this holiday. Nobody gets excluded, and it’s exciting for all ages. From children trick-or-treating in suburbia to those in college getting dressed up for a fraternity’s Halloween social, Halloween is something everyone can partake in and enjoy.

6. Decorations

For some, holidays are all about the decorations, and for those people, the Halloween season is the absolute best. The carved pumpkins, the spooky skeletons, and the creepy cobwebs that cover people’s porches and lawns are what this holiday is all about (well, that and free candy). Making homemade decorations (i.e. carving pumpkins) can be half of the fun of this holiday, so go crazy and go big, or go home.

7. Parties

Halloween parties are one of the best parts of the Halloween season; costume parties are especially exciting. Everyone gets dressed up to get messed up, and it’s an overall great time. Apple cider, bobbing for apples, costume contests, and awesome music are all things you can find at most Halloween parties. So, put on that costume, and get ready for a great night!

8. Haunted Houses

One thing that a lot of people, including me, love about Halloween are all the scary attractions. Haunted houses are one of my all-time favorite! Sure, I may scream like a child and cry a little, but it’s SO worth it. Halloween is the best holiday of the year, being a little scared comes with it, so I take it like a champ and enjoy the chills and thrills.

9. Pet costumes

The only thing more exciting than dressing up on Halloween is dressing up your precious fur baby. They might hate you for it, but the pictures you’ll have are totally worth it. Dressing your dog as a hot dog is priceless, so remember, don’t forget your pets when shopping for costumes this year.

10. 13 Nights of Halloween

Like I mentioned before, the scary movies and television specials that come around every Halloween make the season more exhilarating. Shout-out to ABC Family for always hooking us up with the best of the best Halloween movies and TV shows every year; their 13 Nights of Halloween special is a crowd-pleaser for sure. From Casper to more adult-friendly horror films, this event is full of movies for the whole family.

11. No gifts

Let’s be real, Halloween is awesome because you don’t have to waste time or money buying people gifts that they’ll probably return anyway. You might buy a few bags of candy to hand out to trick-or-treaters, or you might buy a costume (and one for your pet, of course), but I promise, you won’t be breaking the bank by doing so. Halloween is a real money-saver.

12. It's Fall, y'all.

Perhaps one of the most appealing aspects of Halloween is the time of the year during which it falls. October weather is incredible; nothing beats the changing leaves or the not-too-hot-not-too-cold air. Undeniably, Fall is the best season by far, making Halloween that more amazing. Imagine if Halloween fell in December… not fun.

13. No hassle

Generally speaking, Halloween is a pretty stress-free holiday. There are no far travels to make, no holiday feasts to cook, and as I mentioned, no gifts to wrap. Halloween is all about having a good time and enjoying the holiday; it is not a huge fuss or commitment. Let's face it, Halloween really is the most superior holiday of them all.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
