Okay, so right now we are all in this weird in-between. Halloween has just ended, and it was great because clowns did not torment anyone, that I know of anyways, and now we are just waiting for Thanksgiving. We have nearly three weeks left until Thanksgiving break, but the question is, how do we tolerate school until then? It’s not like we have Halloween to look forward to now. I am calling it, the Halloween After-Shock. Plus, it is too late to do fall traditions. Also, it is too warm to start the winter customs, or is it? Here are some things that I know will help me get through to Thanksgiving, and may save you as well.
- Upcoming Movies
I do not know if you have been living under a rock lately, but there are some amazing movies coming out in the next few weeks. We have Marvel’s Doctor Strange coming out now, and then next weekend we have J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Any Harry Potter fans reading this know how epic that is. By the way, it was just announced that Johnny Depp will be in the next film; Total fan girl moment. If you are not really a magical or comic book fan, Hacksaw Ridge is a war movie that is like this generation’s Saving Private Ryan. I do not know if that is completely accurate to say, since I have not seen the film yet, but so far critics have been giving it unbelievable reviews.
- Christmas Traditions
If you ask me, I do not think it is too early to start preparing for Christmas. Technically, you should not put up Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving. Fine, don’t put up any decorations, unless you want to, but that does not mean you should not start listening to Michael Buble’s spectacular Christmas album. I also have to recommend the playlist on Spotify called Christmas’s Classic Hits. Is it criminal to start watching holiday films too, such as Christmas with the Kranks or the Santa Clause series? Absolutely not. After a long day, there is nothing better than coming home with a nice warm blanket and snuggling up to a holiday classic.
- Plan Your Break
Another way to make it to Thanksgiving is by planning your break now. Book your tickets now, they will be cheaper and it will make you happier, if you have not done so already. Not only should you plan your tickets, but decide what you are going to do and who you are going to see while you are home. Merely thinking about it will help you get through these last few weeks. Also, prepare for it by saving money. Do not forget black Friday shopping. Black Friday is like finding out you missed a present under the tree after Christmas. It’s the present after the holiday.
- Care packages
As Thanksgiving and the holiday season draws near, your family and friends will be in a more festive and giving mood. Reach out to them and hint at a care package. Homemade chocolate chip cookies can definitely give you that extra nudge to make it to break. Maybe you aren’t in the mood to have any more sweets since you just loaded up on Halloween candy. Ask for gift cards or any supplies that you are running low on! Even ask for something from home that will help ease your homesickness for the time being.
- FaceTime Your Home Friends
There is no better time to catch up with your friends from home than right now. Find out which day their break begins, so you can meet up before you spend the holiday with your family members. For most of us, we have not seen our friends since we left for school, except possibly over Columbus Day weekend. If you have a larger friend group, I recommend downloading the app called House Party. It is like FaceTime on steroids. This way you can all catch up and you will be able to agree (hopefully) on a mutual time and place that you can all get together.
Do not worry. It is will Thanksgiving break before you know it. And then, Christmas! Until next time…
