Back in the day of trick-or-treating and choosing Princess or Superhero as a career path, October 31st was the only day our parents would take us around the neighborhood with our little orange Jack-O-Lantern buckets and over the top costumes. However, in college (especially here at the College of Charleston) students take advantage of every night from the weekend before Halloween to the weekend after. Needless to say, costumes and coffee are must-haves to be prepared for this week of fun.
Halloweek has been the topic of many conversations ever since the first of October. Honestly, my friends and I have been planning our costumes since the day after Halloween in 2013. With Halloween festivities occurring almost every night of the week, here are a few tips for surviving until November 1st.
Get ahead in class. This week, staying on track in class is all about time management. Map out everything you have to get done for the week and knock it out early. Start with the small assignments that are easy to complete and then begin studying for that test that isn't until Friday. If you have time, finish as much work as you can in the morning or during your break in between class so that you don't have to in the evening.
Use what you have. With events going on multiple nights of the week, you are going to need more than one costume. While getting dressed up as everything from Minnie Mouse to a shower loofah is your dream come true, it can get expensive. Have you been to Halloween Express lately? It's ridiculous. Look in your closet, your roomies' closets, and anyone else's who you know will share with you and use what you find to create the outfit you want. If you're lucky, you'll only have to purchase a few minor items.
Remember to get SOME sleep. Although you have probably already accepted the fact that you will be tired all week, make sure to go to bed at night. No matter how much fun you are having, staying up till 5am three nights in a row will not result in a happy person at 9am the next morning. There are many chances to go out and have fun this week so remember to get a few hours of sleep!
So think up some crazy costumes, and get excited for the week ahead! Don't forget to put aside some cash for a few cups of coffee.
