As everyone knows, the NFL has not been super welcoming to its minority viewers. Many celebrities who supported Kaepernick and his fight for justice turned down the super bowl's halftime show and one that didn't just happened to be one of the hottest artists in hip hop at the moment. Travis Scott faced a lot of turmoil from other celebrity peers about performing for the halftime show but he is young and poppin' so I'm sure he didn't care too much. Many fans hearing about Travis Scott were probably pumped just like me. Expecting a huge show of some of his best songs. Travis Scott has a huge list of popular songs that people would expect to be performed at the half time show. Instead, he gets one minute of stage time.
The Super Bowl was already boring as can be with a final score of 13-3 there wasn't much going on. By half the score was only 3-0. Nothing exciting had happened since the interception in the first quarter and people were hoping for a great halftime show. When Maroon 5 opened up people expected that, and only that. No one expected Travis Scott to perform one of his most mainstream songs for a minute and a half. The intro to Travis contained SpongeBob and that was awesome, I'm sure fans loved it. Once people realized that Travis wasn't coming out to perform more I think it broke everyone's heart a little bit. Never heard of any huge Maroon 5 fans and Adam Levine taking his shirt off really didn't make it much better. In my opinion, that was the worst Super Bowl of all time but the halftime was the icing on the cake.
The commercials were bad, the game was boring, the halftime show was not impressive. We needed more Travis Scott. Travis Scott has the fan base, he has the songs, he has the energy to put on an amazing half time show and the NFL didn't let him. For obvious reasons, the NFL has not had the best year and they are only making it worse. Sooner or later they won't be making much money. Kaepernick is still not playing, other players that have followed his lead were not punished and everyone is still wondering what is going on. Maybe one day the NFL will change things and welcome everyone no matter their beliefs. As fans, we can only hope this comes true.
For the future of the NFL we don't really know what this means, all we know is that it does not look good and the NFL needs to fix what is going on immediately. A lot of people skipped out on the super bowl due to social issues this year. After seeing how poor of a Super Bowl this was more people might consider skipping out on it next year. The least the NFL could do is schedule a good halftime show with artists everyone will enjoy and not some wannabe who thinks taking off his shirt will empress the entire world. Good try Adam, but we needed more Travis.
