Why I Cut My Hair

Hair cuts for Jillian is an event that my sorority puts on once a year and it is to honor and celebrate Jillian Blackhall. Jillian was a senior in our house last year and unfortunately she was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer and lost all of her hair during chemo treatment. So now our sorority has an event that if you are willing to you can donate your hair to the millions of people with cancer, you can. Also huge shout out to Gaia salon, in Manhattan, KS because they came in and did this service for free to anyone willing to donate more than 9 inches of hair.

Overall, I am so thankful for the experience and opportunity that I had to cut and donate my hair to make wigs for cancer patients. In the past I would have never wanted to cut off my long blonde locks but this year I was just looking for a change. So, I decided to put my fear aside and have a new hair style.

Below you will find my inspiration and tips:

Find your Inspiration

Above I have compiled a few images of what I was going for as of cut, style, and color. I would recommend that you do this too and show your stylist.

Talk to your hair stylist & friends

You are going to want to know if you look is achievable and understand what it is going to take to have the hair that your drooling over on Pinterest. Along with talking to your stylist it is also a good idea to talk to the people closest with you; my friends were all for the most part super encouraging of this change, which that helped persuade me. Getting family/friend insight is helpful because, they know you the best and may be able to see if you are in fact making a mistake.

Understand the changes you are making

I made a lot of quick decisions and I am ultimately really happy with how my hair turned out but, I would recommend thinking about how the changing our your style may change your routine and what extra time you may or may not have to account for when styling. Also think too about what you may not be able to do anymore. With super short hair, for me that means no more high ponytails.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
