This past Wednesday, I was lucky enough to see HAIM for a second time (I saw them the first weekend of ACL), and let me tell you, I never thought a show could be that energetic. I also never thought I could sweat that much, but I guess there's a first time for everything. Anyway, after waiting in line for a few hours in the heat (don't worry Mom I was doing homework too) my friends and I were lucky enough to be third row for their show at Stubb's. The blessing of being so close is that I managed to capture some super cool pictures of my favorite band of sisters, but the curse was that I was too close to fit them all in one photo. So, in order to prove how cool and genuinely awesome Danielle, Alana, and Este are, I have compiled my pictures together to form a photo diary.
The HAIM sisters are famous for their hair, so there is definitely no lack of hair flips at one of their shows. Here I caught Danielle with the first hair flip of the night during a guitar solo.
During a cover of Prince's "I Would Die 4 U," Este makes her way into the crowd, but only after a few synchronized dance moves with her sisters.
Here is Danielle during the chorus of their song "Forever" glowing in front of an array of red lights.
In this picture you can see Este's boots with embroidered pictures of planets on them. She told a story about a girl coming up to her earlier that day and telling her "I can see Uranus," to which she replied "Um, can we be best friends?"
Here is Alana wearing her "Texas is for lovers" shirt. All three of them kept referring to the audience as their family rather than their fans throughout the show and said it was one of the best nights of their lives. Alana told us she knew her shirt was 100 percent true.
Before there was HAIM, there was "Rockin' Haim," a band they created with their parents. As a special treat for the audience, for one night only, Rockin' Haim reunited and sang their rendition of "Ride Sally Ride" by Lou Reed. It was a very special moment to witness and the love pouring from both the Haim family and the audience was incredible.
At the end of their set, HAIM's crew rolled out an incredibly long drumset, with just enough drums for each of them. They then began playing what is probably the coolest drum battle ever; at one point getting the audience to "get low" until we're all physically touching the ground. We then all slowly rose back up until we were all jumping for at least two minutes straight. They ended their set on a super high note, and the audience went wild.
HAIM is probably the most feel-good, energetic, and coolest band out there. They are all an inspiration to me as people, and I know this new wave of girl-fronted bands will help inspire other girls to do what they love. If you haven't had the chance to see them live before, then I highly recommend you get on that. If not, I guess you'll just have to keep listening to "Days are Gone" until their next album comes out, which shouldn't be too much longer, according to them. Fingers crossed.
