Have you ever thought about learning a new language? Of course, schools offer classes, but students, usually, don't even care about learning the language. Instead, they worry more about the grade. Or maybe someone thought about trying but then realized it was harder than they thought. Well, I have a few reasons to why one should reconsider learning a new language.

1. You no longer have to use captions on Netflix.

Have you ever came along a good movie and all of a sudden you come to a part where a character speaks a different language? Do you know how much work one has to put into turning on the captions? First, we have to put whatever snack we're enjoying at the moment down, then we have to lift our finger, pause the movie, rewind the movie, click on the "English captions," click "Play," listen and read at the same time, then understand what just happened. Well, if you knew the language, you would've been able to understand what the character said without putting in all that hard work.. tragic.

2. Job opportunities.

It is said that being bilingual can earn you a bit more cash! Who doesn't want more money?! Well, being bilingual can help you out when looking for a job. The world is changing everyday, companies are looking for people that speak multiple languages so they can speak to customers. Finance, sales, technology, manufacturing, professional services and government jobs are jobs that mostly need workers that speak more than one language. Researchers also say, speaking more than one language can earn you more money than what people who speak only one language make.

3. Traveling is more enjoyable.

By knowing more than one language, traveling can be easier and fun. You can go from being a "tourist" who only speaks one language and has to ask around, to a person who can actually interact with anyone around. You also can avoid looking stupid fumbling to try to find the correct words to ask someone for directions. Oh, and you can save some money because souvenir shops tend to sell things at a higher price to people who don't speak their language just because tourist are easier to trick. Also, locals will talk about tourists because they will think that they won't understand them, only to find out that they are the stupid ones and the tourists understood everything they said.

4. Delays Alzheimer's.

By being bilingual, your brain gets a boost. A person can improve their memory and have a longer attention span. Being bilingual doesn't mean that a person won't ever get Alzheimer's, it means that a person can delay Alzheimer's. If being bilingual means you can delay Alzheimers for years, go ahead and learn a new language because it'll be worth it.

5. Establishes deep connections.

By learning another language, it lets you learn more about other cultures and traditions. You can meet new people and become closer to them. You can find love. When you meet the parents, I promise you they will instantly like you if they see you can speak their language.

I can go on and on with reasons to why a person should learn another language. But I will say this, knowing another language is fun and worth it. You can think in a different language, or the best part... speak in multiple languages at the same time! So, what are you waiting for?

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
