January is right around the corner, which is terrifying and refreshing at the same time. The new year of 2020 is amongst us, which means people are making resolutions not only for the new year but the new decade. I say, why wait? if you want to be the best version of yourself in 2020, why do you have to start in 2020? The best time to start is now and I say that for everything. I truly don't think any of us are ever going to be "ready" to make every change we want to in our lives, so just do it. Here are 5 habits to start implementing before the end of this decade to start you on your journey to a new you.

1. Drink more water.

Giphy

The most simple yet most effective way to feel better. I know you're rolling your eyes because you see this one on EVERY self-help checklist. You know why? Because it works. Staying hydrated will literally change your life. So many of my friends make fun of me for drinking literally so much water but don't realize that they feel bad because of dehydration until they start drinking more. You will probably* have a more clear head, be less hungry, make better eating decisions and just overall feel better, Go ahead and drink about 8 hydroflasks a day. Thank me later.

* because that is what happened for me but I am no doctor and don't want to promise anything false.

2. Say nice things to yourself.

Giphy

Every morning, I want you to stand in front of your mirror, look yourself in the eyes and repeat the mantra of your choice. Say "I will..[insert personal goals]." Tell yourself you are capable of anything. You are beautiful. Strong. Independent. Whatever adjectives help you feel like a superhero, do it! I am a big believer in confidence, manifestation, and honestly just being your own hype man. If you believe you can, no one can stop you. You've got this.

3. Physically write down one thing you are grateful for.

I take the time every day to write down one person, thing, event, whatever I am grateful for that day. This allows me to reflect in a positive way and remember the things that really matter.

4. Do 10 minutes of light exercise.

Giphy

That's it. 10 extra minutes out of your day to go on a walk, get your blood flowing, and have a little alone time. I like to go to the gym, usually longer than 10 minutes, but sometimes just that, to listen to music, be alone with myself, and just be. Working out is not only good for your physical health but also increases endorphins, which makes you happy!

5. Tell someone you love them.

Giphy

I text my family every day that I love them. I tell my friends, my boyfriend, and everyone else I care about. Letting people know you are thinking about them and care about them should be a normal thing in everyone's life. It is a nice feeling to let my loved ones know they are loved. Spread a little happiness.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
