I'm sure you've heard the saying "new year, new me!"
I'm not going to lie, I usually roll my eyes when I see that hashtagged on my social media feeds every December 31. However, this year, I have started to embrace the sentiment. The thought of a fresh start and a chance to change is actually something I welcome this year.
With that in mind, here are five habits I would like to ditch in 2017.
1. Constantly checking social media
I will openly admit it: I am attached to my phone. I check social media on a near constant, even more often if I'm super bored. I would like to try to disconnect a little during 2017. I realize a clean break probably won't happen because I'm a weak human being, but staying away from my phone and social media for longer periods of time would be a start.
2. Careless spending
I am a horrible, horrible saver and an even worse spender. Where did my paycheck go? I really couldn't tell you because I keep track of nothing -- if I had to guess though, food and alcohol. My goal in 2017 is to use my money more effectively, getting my bills paid on time and always setting aside a little in my savings account. Pray for me.
3. Being late to everything ever
Ask anyone who works with me, gone to school with me, generally knows of me -- I am never on time for anything. Shifts at my supermarket job, hang outs with my friends, appointments, reservations -- unless someone is riding my ass, I am always late. This has to stop in 2017 because it's honestly a terrible habit to have and I'm pretty sure my friends and coworkers want to kill me some days.
4. Eating junk
I am a girl who loves french fries and popcorn, it is true. I eat a lot of vegetables and fruit to begin with, but I also indulge in some junk food, probably more then I should. I would love 2017 to be the year I cut back on that and introduce healthier habits into my life.
5. Not being organized
I have never been the girl that has everything in its place, neat and orderly and had everything together -- in fact, I am literally the exact opposite. Some people would even go as far as calling me "messy". I would like to become somewhat more organized in the new year. It would be a large adjustment for me, but I think it's a skill worth learning.
