Welcome to I Didn't Know That About GVSU, a miniseries that I will be starting on the Odyssey. Each issue will contain information that is relatively unknown to the majority of the student population and includes resources, tips, and fun facts. Readers are also encouraged to send in things that they know that they want me to put in the next article or questions that they want me to look into.

In this edition, we will be discussing fun things that you can do on the GVSU homepage and where to print in color (for non art majors).

The GVSU Homepage

Back in the day, I used to play lots of video games. In some of them you type in a special code and fun things happen, such as your character getting unlimited lives or ammo. But did you know that the GVSU homepage has a secret code embedded in it? Try it out for yourself! Go to the homepage and hit the up arrow key twice, down arrow key twice, left arrow once, right arrow once, left arrow once, right arrow once, the letter B, and the letter A.

If you do this quick enough the screen will dim and two options will come up. A gray game cartridge will have "Football Frenzy" under it and a gold cartridge will have "Legend of Louie" under it.

Football Frenzy involves clicking all the footballs that are on the screen and there is a counter that tells you how many footballs have been clicked on already.

Legend of Louie was a recent addition and clicking on this will open up a role playing game where you move around and complete missions. The main story is about the SVSU cardinal trying to steal the GVSU logo and you're supposed to find the four pieces that are around the GVSU campus. There are a few side quests, such as finding a student's application and helping another student move into his apartment. You walk around and there are random characters who tell you fun facts about GVSU. There are also signs next to each building telling you which one it is.

Allendale Copy Center

We have several different areas on campus where you can print documents. But where is the color printing located? If you're not an art major, your only option would be the Allendale Copy Center. The Allendale Copy Center is located in the basement level of the Marketplace and you would have to email them the images that you would like to print out at copycenter@gvsu.edu. It costs 10 cents per page that you would like to print out (last time I checked). There are also other services available. We have some classes that use RedShelf for their te and they allow you to print out the ebook version, which you can do at the Copy Center. I think the Copy Center also allows you to bind your own books.

Note: This is also the place where you pick up textbooks that you preorder on the bookstore's website.

I hope you learned something new about Grand Valley today. Remember that you are welcome to send in any ideas that you would like for me to write about in the next edition as well as anything about GVSU that you would like for me to investigate!

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

The Unwritten Rules Of "Talking"

What is "talking?" How does one "talk?"

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
