If you’re like me, you may refer to yourself as a guy’s girl (GG). Contrary to popular belief, this isn’t the same as a tomboy, and definitely doesn’t mean you sleep around either. I like to hang with dudes, bottom line.
I like sports, movies with car crashes, and the occasional burp fest. Hey, better out than in, right? But just because I like hanging with the guys every once in a while doesn’t mean I hate hanging with girls either. Sure, I tend to stray from drama queens and attention hogs, but having a small, close group of girlfriends is important for any girl’s mental sanity.
What’s it like to have this kind of personality and be surrounded by girls 24/7? Honestly, sometimes it can be difficult. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE my sisters, and I would do anything for them, but we don’t always want to talk about the same things, watch the same things on TV, or do the same activities. Going away to a university where I knew virtually no one was difficult, but I knew I was rushing and that soon I would have 200 new friends to hang out with all the time. The difficulty with that was that all these friends would be girls, and based on a majority of sorority stereotypes, I wasn’t sure if I would fit in.
What I didn’t realize was that I wouldn’t be alone. A GG isn’t exactly a unicorn, and I soon found that plenty of my sisters were into the same things as I was. This was a huge relief for me because, as a GG, the second best thing to hanging with the guys is hanging with other GGs.
So even though I don’t necessarily see eye to eye with every girl in Greek life, I know that I’m surrounded by plenty of girls that get what I’m about. I’ve even been able to open up more and enjoy “girlier” things like shopping and the occasional chick flick (I still burp as loud as I can all the time, though. Sorry, Mom).
