I'll start off by saying that I really like coffee to begin with. Not because I'm addicted to caffeine, just because I genuinely like the taste of it. Alright well maybe I have a slight addiction but that's beside the point. It's that time of the year again, September is upon us and that can only mean one thing: Pumpkin Spice Lattes.
Sure, they get a bad rap since they're only for "basic" people, but when you boil it down, it's more than just a symbol of being basic. I can think of plenty of other guys I know that like the PSL, as it is colloquially called, and call me crazy, but I don't think that has anything to do with them. Rather, I think it has everything to do with the heaven that those Starbucks baristas put into the glossy white cup.
When you dissect the drink, there isn't much to it at all. Coffee, milk, and the all-important pumpkin spice flavoring. It all works well together. Most things that have coffee in them are pretty tasty in my book, but combine coffee with other popular flavors, and how could you go wrong? While many of us (including myself) find it inferior to its wintry counterpart, the Peppermint Mocha, the PSL is one of the most powerful and delicious indicators of the autumnal season. I'd probably put it next to colored leaves and pumpkins.
Some may like to judge me for being a guy who enjoys a PSL, but in this day and age, I think it makes a statement to go against the norm. So do yourselves a favor, and go grab a PSL before they're gone. (Thank me later, Starbucks.)
