In recent weeks, we have seen the biggest massacre in recorded American history. Each day there seems to be more information than the last. With so many new details, whether bizarre or convincing, emerging from the cracks, we all still weep for those and yet not many families are able to be left alone to grieve.
There is an argument over how to solve this issue. If it is not the guns that kill people, then it is evident that people kill people. People use objects to kill people. If we could get better control of the people who buy these guns, then this would give for improving gun control and policies.
Coming from Chicago, I have seen reports all over the news stating how many innocent lives were taken in the blink of an eye, and it is heartbreaking to see not only the city I love growing up near, and others like Orlando, get ripped to shambles over the people who choose to use a gun, an object, to harm an innocent person.
If we did this or that, we would be on our way of gaining control over people before gaining control over gun policies and the process of obtaining a gun. Before laying a finger on policies of guns, we need a better look at who we are granting the privilege of owning a gun to. Without proper inspection of an individual, we will no longer have control over our own people.
In order to get control over people, we need to start evaluating more of a citizen's background before granting permission for them to use and handle a gun with a license. To make this a fair debate, we need to come to terms that people harm people, and people use items to harm people. Inanimate objects don't harm people.
With many of these mass shootings happening around normal places and schools, it comes to the point where I have to do the same thing when I am crossing the street - look both ways before I go. If I could feel safe again, it would be to listen and start believing that these gun policies and those who are using guns against their real purpose for protecting
All in all, if we test new methods out on figuring out who should be getting these guns and who shouldn't, then that would give us a chance to look over gun policies and any concerns communities have with people who have guns. What I hope you all take from this is not to berate you, but to inform you in a proper way than the media. To be so close to Chicago, and the violence being so close to home, there's not a whole lot I can do but speak my mind. This is what I want taken away: guns don't hurt people; people hurt people.
