Gun Control from the Eyes of a Gun Owner

It isn't the way to stop gun violence.

Gun control is a series of laws and rules that Obama and other politicians think is a good answer to the mass shootings and radical terrorism in our country. It isn’t. Gun control is the exact opposite of what it is that we need. If more people carry firearms, less casualties will occur in mass shootings.

After the multiple mass shootings in the past years, the one thing that is always blamed is the gun. Not the shooter, the gun. That’s like saying spoons make people fat. The issue is not that a radical or mentally unstable person shoots up a public place. The issue is that there are not more people carrying permitted firearms in public places, and public places that have gun restrictions.

If a KKK member puts a burning cross on the front lawn of somebody’s home, most people would not say that they represent the whole white population. If a black man commits a murder, he does not represent all black people. If a terrorist commits a terror attack, he is viewed as being extreme, and not a representative of the Muslim culture. However, if one person who has a gun illegally, or has a mental illness and is given a gun, he or she represents the National Rifle Association (NRA) and all legal, permitted gun owners. Does that really make sense?

Criminals will not comply with laws already. That is why they are called criminals. They won’t comply with gun control laws; just like they don’t comply with drug laws or laws against theft. Gun control laws will only effect the law abiding citizens like you and me. Until those who make the laws realize that, we have a problem in our country.

Gun control laws will affect America in a big way. The more gun control we have, the more crime. The less gun control, the less crime. If a shooter goes into a public area knowing that a lot of people will not be carrying, they will take advantage of that. However, if they know that most of those people will be armed with a permitted firearm, they may think twice. If they don’t, the gun owners will eliminate the problem. A gun is much easier to carry than a police officer. They are also a quicker solution than calling the police, which should always be done anyway.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
