Guiding Your Energy

Have you ever found yourself in a situation that seems so constant in your life? You feel suppressed to always being the giver of things, but your time and energy into this person, or project isn't being reciprocated?

This can vary from many directions in your life. Whether it has to do with your friendships and relationships, family, commitments, projects, etc. At some point, we have all experienced a time where we felt like we were giving too much time and energy to the wrong people or things.

We often wonder, why is it that this happens? Why do we give so much into things knowing very well that the energy might not be the same, or what we expect it to. I've learned that it all starts with your mindset. Over the past year I have been able to understand that you can't fully go into a situation expecting it all to come out the way you imagined it. You can't expect too much from people either. You see, the thing is that we all view things differently and people have their own set of core values. If you allow yourself to let the opposition's take over you, you won't progress and won't allow yourself to understand and grow.

I know what it's like to want to stick around for so long, and I can definitely say "been there done that." I got to the point in my life where everything was exhausting. The idea of wanting to give back to everyone was not working out for me and of course this had it's reasoning. This is because I wasn't meant to be the world's problem solver, this just meant I had to switch my mindset and re captivate my energy on what really needed my attention.

We become so attached to the perceptions we view about people or things, that we completely ignore the reality of it, and the reality can sometimes be difficult to accept. Accepting the reality of things means that you're bound to deal with the situation, and sometimes that can be hard and that's okay. Guiding your energy is something that is in your full control. You will always be your own kind, and you have it in you to build your strength in realizing what really deserves your energy.

I've been doing a lot of re evaluating in my life, and even though I have disappointed myself in the way I handled certain things, I was able to forgive myself and grow. So if you're still here reading this, I want you to know I believe in you and I hear you. Your feelings will never be invalid, but I hope that you can take something from here and acknowledge that you are in full control of guiding your energy towards the right people and the right things.

For the average 20-something, life moves pretty fast. You’ve got classes, friends, relationships, jobs, family, and whatever else we overcommit ourselves with. I probably should have learned to say no to adding more to my schedule a long time ago, but instead here are 11 things that can be more helpful than coffee.

Resting b***h face. Defined as a person, usually a girl, who naturally looks mean when her face is expressionless, without meaning to. Many of you suffer from this "condition." You are commonly asked what's wrong, when nothing is. What people don't know is that is just your facial expression. Here are some things they wish you knew.

College students, you might be able to relate to this one. These probably sound familiar because we often tell ourselves these phrases; however, we are unable to follow or agree with these the following, deep down inside of our overwhelmed, tired minds.

1. "No more spending money on useless things"

Until you walk into a 99 cents store and suddenly have the urge to pick up anything that's less than a dollar.

For the past few months, I have not been my usual happy-go-lucky-self for a number of reasons, but one thing that has been helping me is to think about all of the little things in my life that I am thankful for. I know this might seem really cliché, but it is so true. I cannot stress enough how much better I feel when I think about all the great people and privileges I have in my life. It makes all of the insignificant things that I am stressing about or worrying about in my head seem not nearly as bad. I have decided to make a list of 26 things (out of many more) in my life that I am especially thankful for.
