I have this theory that everyone has the same amount of talents and that they’re simply distributed in different way.
For example, English makes sense to me, but math makes sense to one of my friends. My boyfriend is stupid good at Guitar Hero, but I can hardly play a song on easy. This doesn’t mean that one of us is smarter or more talented than the other; it simply means that we have different strengths.
I have this other theory that we can look at our talents and passions as road markers. God doesn’t give us a road map of our life (which would sure make things a lot easier), but I do believe that the gifts He has given us are hints on which way to go.
I believe the things we’re good at can guide us along the path God wants us to take. After all, why would He give us talents if we aren’t supposed to use them to make other people’s lives better?
If you’re like me and have the desire to dedicate your life to helping people, don’t be discouraged if your talents point you toward a career that isn’t as obviously service-based as being a pastor, missionary, or doctor. Service come in all sorts of forms. A garbage man serves his clients by taking care the gross stuff that they probably don’t want to deal with, an accountant serves her clients by doing their taxes, and a plumber serves his customers by fixing their pipes.
The whole reason we’re here is to put the talents God gave us to good use. You can spread the Gospel no matter what you’re doing with your life.
Just give it to God, try to figure out what He has planned for you, and pour your whole freaking heart into it.
