Graduation has passed and summer is reaching an end. Everyone is getting packed, ready to head off to college. Off to new experiences, new surroundings, new academic atmosphere, new freedoms and the chance to make new friends. Yet, you can't help but wonder if the cliche of going to college equals losing all your old high school pals. Will you all just stop talking and hanging out until friends turn into strangers? Not necessarily. There are numerous ways to keep in touch with one another in this wonderful age of technology. So, just because you won't see your friends every day, doesn't mean your friendship disappears. Sometimes, the tension can make your friendship bloom more. Naming a few simple ways to stay in touch is what this article is all about.

Use Those Apps! (like Facebook and Snapchat)

In this modern age, it takes a simple press of a finger to send a message on Facebook or send an embarrassing selfie via Snapchat. It really is that simple. It is also easy to just check their timeline or story and see what your friends have been up to and such.

Cellphones, Duh!

Again, with the ease and speed of a few seconds, one can send entire novels over text. Phones make it all too easy with every upgrade to send how you feel. I mean, come on people, we now have emoji's!

You can send your friends all sorts of emoji's, not just faces. My personal favorite being the poop emoji.

Of course, most people have already tired over the poop emoji, since everyone went haywire and sent it over and over. Now, most have moved on to the bigger and better emojis, but the poop emoji will always hold a special place in my heart.

Video calls: Skype

When you start to miss your bestie, it does not matter how far away you are, Skype (and other video call apps) can help you see each other face-to-face...sorta. The distance is still there, but you can now physically see them. It is just important to remember to be patient when you buffer or the video quality isn't up to par.

Transportation: Cars! Trucks! Bikes! Your own legs!

If one has a way, it is always fun to make a surprise visit to your friend, especially when you get to see their face when they realize it really is you. It never really gets old. Just "making my way downtown". And as Terry Crews so delicately put it in White Chicks, "And I need you/And I miss you/And now I wonder/If I could fall into the sky/Do you think time would pass me by?/ Cuz you know I'd walk a thousand miles if I could just see you tonight". Song artist: (Vanessa Carlton)

Make An Effort

None of these tips will work if both party members are not trying their hardest to stay in contact with one another. This is NOT a one-sided problem.

Know That It Is OK To Not Talk Every Day

Lastly, know that there is no pressure whatsoever to communicate every single day. So, no need to panic or assume the worst. Just take a breath and relax knowing your friendship is solid enough to last past high school into your adult lives.

Enjoy your lifelong friendships!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
